Thumbs down Honda City 2010 ~ 2011 Pick & Knocking Issue

    AOA
    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>
Am Usman from Faisalabad , I bought Brand New Honda City in December 2010 , previously I was using Toyota Corolla XLI ( 2007) .<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Honda City is my first entry to Honda Cars , at 400km I complained Honda Faisalabad about knocking of my car in low speed specially in gear 1 & 2 while AC on.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Service team at Honda just beat about the bush and advised me to keep using the car it is normal. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
I have been to Murree and cannot explain my worst experience , too much knocking in Gear No-2 , car loose power & pick in gear 2.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Fuel average 11.7km / ltr on motorway with AC on , without AC it did 13KM. Within City drive 7~8km / ltr. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
While AC on I felt I am driving Suzuki Cultus. My FAMILY also noticed AC not cooling as much for back seats as Toyota did . <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
2nd gear of Honda City is just disgusting and it can cause accident.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Sudden loss of pick & power especially while car comes in lower gear 2 from higher gear 4 and vise versa.
    <o:p></o:p>
I used engine oils like , MOBIL 1 , HONDA Fully Synthetic but issue remained the same.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Tried fuel from various pumps and also used HI-OCTANE from TOTAL . <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
    Mobil-1 & High Octane 30% resolved my issue . <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
I am disappointed from Honda Service Team whenever i told them about my issue they said car is normal and live with it , Kindly advise any solution otherwise I have made up my mind to sale it & shift back to Toyota.

    regards
    USMAN <o:p></o:p>

    @above

you should contact jz for iridium plugs. They're the best available, and they work best for high tech engines such as city's Euro 4 compliant engine.

plug type and plug gapping is something we have all overlooked. You should replace plugs and make sure you have the proper factory spec plug gaps. Do post updates

    Dear All

I Own 2 Honda Cities. First one is 2009 and the reason for purchasing second in 2011 was due to that machine ... 2009 baby is really great but 2011 girl is some pathetic old lady .....

i am also facing same powerlessness issue in my new car .... couple of weeks ago my elder brother went to Murree on new machine and he was really angry that what kind of machine i got .... same issues while climbing on steep heights .... powerless 1st and 2nd Gear ... Car was checked in Honda Breeze and i m going to Naran a day after tomorrow. will update you about that journey later.

On the other hand some of my friends are mentioning HARD SUSPENSION ... let me tell u, at first in 2009 i was facing same Issue with my 2009 city ... replaced my Company fitted EUROSTAR tyres with DUNLOP Tyers ... issue was resolved but again arised after 1 week ...... then i asked HONDA BREEZE about the solution ... they told me that HONDA is recommending only 2 tyre modals for Honda City and CIVIC ... i.e YOKOHAMA DB5 and YOKOHAMA ASPEC .... only these two tyres will help to solve suspension issues ...... Honda guys said that HONDA suspension is v sensitive so its better not to use other tyres .... my experience is that, for suspension issues change your tyres to YOKOHAMA ASPEC or DB5 ..

    Cheers

Right now i am worried about Power Lag issue ... lets hope i wont face it while my journey in mountains ....

am using Yohohama DNA db Tyres and am much pleased . I was driving @ 130 on motorway and while passing through a speed radar , the officer just smiled showing me that am just escaped to be fined . that shows tyre matching with speedo meter is very accurate. i got comfort + Accuracy with Yohohama.

I had the same "knocking" issues in both of my Honda City varios', 03 and 07. And a friend with an 09 model is experiencing the same problem these days. For some strange reason, It usually happens to the Honda City models succeeding the third generation. In both of my citys', cleaning the Fuel pump and using a bit of Hi-Octane solved the problem. I suggest you do the same. It is painfully hard to find Hi Octane these days so, best of luck.

Yes i have taken this car as hobby .
i have gained approx 30~40% improvement by using Mobil 1 -5w-50, PSO Oil , Yohohama DNA db tires .

Comming up improvements are Denso IK20 or VK20 plugs .

    will post updates.....

to what i know knocking issue can be solved by using hioctane, that is what i use for my car,or even octane boosters, once the garam weather is gone, knocking will go away,
its better to use a higher heat range of plugs in hot weather, oem for my car are denso ik16 but i use ik20 because of ik20 being 6 heat range n more resistant to heat.ik20 wud be perfect for ur car according to my knowledge

If three to four consumers across Pakistan file suits against them at different locations, supported by a campaign on internet and possibly on television channels (but commercially speaking, these channels will side with Honda for very obvious reason) the car manufacturer will come to terms with its consumers. Sometime back, I heard of a consumer protection forum run by an NGO; I will try to consult them as well early next week. In fact, the consumers in the US as well as other developed countries are well aware of their rights and strength. Moreover, the regulatory regime over there strongly supports the consumer, and not the manufacturer. Unfortunately, we as consumers here are not aware of our rights and governmental regulatory body for automobiles is either non-existent or if it does it is least bothered. This is the reason that Toyota or any other manufacturer who wants to stay on in the market would compensate consumers in USA without a demand and contrarily will give twohoots to consumers in Pakistan, no matter how strongly they protest. Having said this, I would like to make it clear that I will go to any extent, within the legal parameters, to get my grievance as a consumer fully addressed, and will not sit back till the end no matter what it takes.
    Any updates brother?
    Did they solve your problem?

Owner of a Auto Store told me that Honda City has NGK Laser Iradium Plugs NGK IZFR6K13 by default and Honda Gurantee 100k miles.

He was surprised that why i am replacing the plugs on just 7000km .

Whereas i considered that Honda use regular spark plugs and I am really surprised that no body guided me in this fourm about that hidden fact .

A forum friend offerd me Denso IK 20 for Rs4500 whereas Honda Geniune NGK IZFR6K13 Laser Iradium Spark Plugs cost Rs 3600 only.

I dont know what is the performance advantage of Denso IK 20 or VK20 over NGK IZFR6K13 ?

i think just of time killing and wastage of money vs performance gained.

my 2010 City used to knock in second gear alot for the first 1000km

i was planning to opt for 70% Regular and 30% Hi Octane but the knocking went away after about 1000km

i think petrol quality varies drastically from one region to another and is one of the main reason behind knocking in Honda City

as for suspension im using Dunlop tyres and suspensions seem fine for driving in Karachi
no doubt they r hard but they were same on the stock Eurostar Tyre except those crap Eurostar had no grip S:

I am driving Honda City Auto Model Sep. 2010. Never ever had such issues. Service quality of Honda 3S Stores also good in Karachi. Love this car, Its Trendy and very spacious - much much better than Corrolla. Its frightening to read all this - It appears that City Manual gear has so many such issues. Go for Auto option !!!

Hi guys, I drive 09 Honda civic Si 4 dr I vtec. I never had this issue as long you use high octane gas it shouldnt knock, it only knocks when ecu retard Ignition timing to prevent engine not to damage internally because of gas is not burning fast enough inside the combuster chambers. Try switchig gas, I hope this helps I live in states so we got 93 octane, which gas do you use in your civic?
