Thread: Honda City 2009 Software Upgrade messed my car

    Default Honda City 2009 Software Upgrade messed my car

    Hey Guys,

    I need to know if i am the only one with this problem as Honda Point people certainly dont agree with me. So i took my car for a 25k mileage maintenance check. The guy said there is a new software update for my car which will remove the knocking that happened on a few occasions. I said why not.
    Anyways after the software upgrade my car's RPM meter always stay at 900rpm at the minimum.
    Driving in the city areas my car used to give around 350-375 km in a full tank but now it gives 250-300km which is just ridiculous. On highway the fuel consumption is just fine giving me over 500km per full tank.

    I had a little argument at Honda Point and finally they just said its company upgrade, the rpm is supposed to stay at 900 even if AC is off and they cant do anything about it.

    Has this happened to anyone else or am i the only one in this boat?

    the factory tester can also flash the ECU with new software, and your engine is supposed to idle at 900 rpm regardless of load. Dont worry.

    For the fuel consumption - I beleive that the ECU has retarded timing a little hence your bad fuel consumption, but it would save you by extending the life of the engine.

    plz brief what u want to say ,
    , some time Even they upgrade the software but never upgrade the flashfile , so i think That specific problem need the up gradations of flash file not only software.
    Also want to add one more thing that after instalation of new software , re tunning of engine on new parameters r very important, because engine was tuned on old soft ware, but know all the configuration has changed so for me just need to tune up.

    Knock with the new city is on screen nowadays to compensate that honda came up with retarding the base ignition specially in the mid rpm low/high engine loads where timings nomally are 30-45* advance (some engines) this sure will reduce detonation

    wow i feel like a total n00b in here. lolx.
    So whats the short story guys?
    i need to get my engine tuned or something? is that really going to make a difference.
    All i know is my within city mileage has gone down from 350 to 250 km per full tank. Rest is all noise to me lolx

    I think 900 idle RPM is fine.

    Please define TUNING? - That engine is not mechanically adjustable. Everything is controlled by the ECU. the injector duty cycle, the ignition timing, the VTEC actuation, the A/C.

    I remember you also came up with EFI engines not having injectors in another thread. Is this one of the same scams.

    Agreed 100%. They have retarded the timing to eliminate knocking with pakistani fuel. However thye are facing a problem with no or little low end torque. The AUTO version litrally thinks for 2.5 seconds about whether to rev up from a stall on AC or not (given you have a bad fuel inside the tank).

    Some 2 months ago, i volunteered to be upgraded to new ECU code. Since my car wasnt knocking (09 model), so Honda guyz suggested me that there is no need. But I couldnt resist an upgrade. What I felt is that they have made the timing retard on the entire RPM range. So previously i felt like the car badly demands an upshift at around 3000 rpm. Now it feels smooth at that range.(same as when after an overhaul, you play with a carby distributor without a gun to know where exactly the car should demand an upshift as per your preference yet avoiding ping).

    Also the downshifts on auto are more smooth.

    Kher what Honda guyz are facing now is to somehow tweek with vtec point to avoid its delay. (as per my talk with Honda Field engineer 2 days ago)

    250-300 is good?
    i dunno man seems pretty mediocre to me.
    thing is it used to me more before the upgrade.
    Previously RPM used to be 600 idle, with AC 900.

    I guess i will have to live with it.

    one thing more. currently Honda pakistan is not analysing the ECU code for correction factors. They claim that they are not allowed to. They call upon the Japanese to help them getting rid of customer complaints by sending another version of the code.

    No sir. You do not need to live with it. If you were satisfied with the previous ECU response, you can go back there and ask for that older code. They usually make an upload of the previous codes before downloading the new one. Still if they havnt, they certainly would have a copy of 09 model code lying around in their laptops. So no worries.

    But didnt you feel a nicer in-cabin engine sound afterwards??? You should be enjoying it.

    tbh the only difference i feel after the upgrade is less knocking but knocking is still there.

    Anyways i did ask the Honda people to revert me back to the default software but they refused saying its a company warranty upgrade. we cant do anything. besides i found honda point ppl very uncooperative and in simple language BADTAMEEZ.

    Hi Xubx, i hate the knocking and the 2nd gear lag on my manual city 2010 as well, but if the fuel consumption increases by 100%, the upgrade is simply not worth it. Using 100% high octane would be far cheaper and that solves the knocking and the lag, in my experoence.

    I suggest you take the car to Honda Fort. Their mechanics are the best and quite sensible also. If all fails, try the desi tareeqa with them, give a 1000 rupee to the mechanic and get your ECU configuration reverted to the previous setting.

    Well we dont see much of the 10-11 model owners complaining with knocking (they all have the new code).They only complain about lag in response. So thats strange to hear that knocking is still there in your case.

    Also you mentioned that knocking was before as well. So Mr. Xulfiqar is right. The code shall prolong the engine life.
