Default Brand new Honda City petrol needle problem?

Yesterday, I noted a strange problem on brand new City.

The car petrol was about to finished and needle i saw was standing just above the E (end mark) and on the km reading showing 38, at this point there wasn't any petrol indicator that means there was enough petrol in reserve.

I fill up 1000 Rs. petrol but i was amazed to see there wasn't any upward needle movement or even at km reading both indicator were showing like there wasn't enough petrol, then i though might it calculate in short while and i run around 20 km but still no change.

I fill up 1500 Rs. more petrol, start the car and now needle touches to just around F (full) which was correct so as km were showing right too.

My question is that normal behavior?

Nevertheless how much petrol does tank put on reserve, shouldn't it shown up the needle position and km reading right after when i fill up 1000 rs. petrol?

I have a brand new Honda City, never faced such kind of issue. It stores 7.9L in reserve. Means that when 7.9L (approx) petrol is left in the tank, its reserve lights shows up.

Yeah i took the car to Honda showroom and explain the case, the guy was keep insisting me you should fill the tank to full and i was keep doing argument with him i will fill but that doesn't concludes the problem.

To me if you fill up the tank even for 1000 rs the effect should turn up immediately.

The excuses of these showroom guys are always lame. They always tell us work arounds rather than solving the actual problem.

well to clear your concern a bit, this is the default issue in this model. I also faced the same thing twice. But i had already read about that somewhere on PW forums that it does that. 5 litres of petrol do nothing (absolutely nothing) to the fuel guage. It stays there as it were and the low fuel light keeps on.

    Dont worry. Standard issue.

the needle has a self learning thing...it will take some time to learn the habits of the fuel tank and its filling with fuel...just give it time

640 rs fuel simple petrol will move your needle...less thn that it wont move

^^My cuore needle doesn't even moves with 500 rs petrol.. :/
About petrol guage prob. It exactly moves on 600 rs petrol. Which I have observed.
Even my 2.OD saloon needle doesnt move on less than 700rs diesel.
One more thing. Ignition of car should be turned on while refuelling petrol.

    how true is that
i never keep the ignition on..infact i turn of my car whenever i get petrol.. sometimes i have had the petrol when the engine was on.. it dosent make a difference as far as i know...

if the sensor in the fuel tank is working fine it won't make a difference either your car is switched on or off..
