Default Honda City Vario 2008, loss of RPM when AC starts

    Friends,

I recently got a leaking AC pipe replaced in my car. It might have been happening before but since the ac gas was not full it might not have been that noticeable, but when the gas was filled up again the RPM when idle dipped to 400 and there was visible knocking, before when the ac was turned on the RPM would increase. I had the car checked by my mechanic, he had the spark plugged changed (which were due anyway) and sprayed anti-carb inside the air intake. He did say that it will take a few days before the full effect of the spark plugs and spray takes place, but I being restless as usual, am sending out this query right away, the RPM are still plunging when ac running on idle (at stops mostly), will it improve with time, or something else needs to be done, my car runs on petrol by the way.

u sure? cooling is fine it is not over cool or anything, in old models there used to be a relay to speedup the car now they say there are sensors in the air intake, how do sensors in the air intake know its time to rev up?

extra gas does not mean your ac would become a waves deep freezer
it will put more load on the compressor and mess up the iddling most probably.
get a gauge attached and get the AC gas level cross checked

yeah older carby cars had a vacuum operated "kupi" to control iddle on AC
(which is not the case in EFI cars)
Life is short and very unpredictable just like a Quarter mile .....

Try this do not turn on the AC but turn on all the electrical things on the car except AC. If the rpms drop to 400 than the there is voltage sensor in the throttle body which increases idle rpms as soon as the heavy load items are turned on . But if the idle rpms increase than the your sensor is fine.

The AC compressor is just a pump it has to take cool refrigerant from one component to the other meanwhile pressurizing it. Now just thing of it if the entire system has the capacity to hold 1000gm of refrigerant and you overfill it with 1100gm refrigerant what will happen. The compressor wont to be able to pump properly and hence put load on the engine thats why rpms dropping in idle.

Well I recommend you to get your cars AC system checked by some authorised workshops like punjab car ac or ahmad car ac. Punjab is authorised dealer of denso whereas ahmad car ac are authorised dealers of senden

I have checked with fan, lights and cd player on, the RPM remain fixed at 1000 no dips or surges. I?ts only when the AC is turned on that the RPMs dip. Can I bleed the AC gas myself?

It seems your the Idle up with ac on is not working in your car. Every car has this to maintain RPM like in my Engine as soon as ac turns on to handle the load a idle up kicks in raising rpm.

These modern car this is mostly controlled by ECU which adjusts the rpm with ac load but if some wire is not properly connected or some thing malfunctioned this thing will not work and as you turn on ac with the load of compressor kicks in your rpm drops from 900 to 400.

Get it checked from Honda guys these local mechanics dont know anything about it.
Speed costs money, how fast can you afford to go.

    Dear Friends

To put matter to rest I went to Honda Motors near Kalima Chowk, they took apart the air intake, the small inner valve (one of the 2) was badly choked and was not opening, cleaned it with a carb cleaner. Just for good measure (and to charge a bit extra) it was also tuned by COMPUTER. Initially I only noticed a slight change in engine sound (it had decreased), and the matter of RPM's dipping was still there, but the honda mechanic assured me that as I drive it will become smoother and adjust itself. Sure enough after a few kilometers the driving become smoother but at idle there was no shuddering as if the car is about to stall (although the RPM did still dip slightly on idle). Now the RPM do not dip when idling in N(uteral), but they do when you stop with foot on brakes and gear in D(rive) but they are not noticible. It is because I am constantly looking at the RPM meter that I notice it. So in the end it is better to go to dealers than small mechanics
