    Default City Vario or XLi

Dear friends, I want to buy a new car but I am confused on which to choose between City Vario & XLi. I do not change cars that quickly neither do I have a lot to spare. I want a durable & safe car. I request any of you to give some expert advice on which car should I invest my hard earned money. I know little about cars.

Buddy, one car you mentioned is A/T the other is M/T..i feel that we will be able to guide you better when you're sure abt the tranny you want..cause the XLI comes in M/T only (and i wouldnt recommend that any way)

if you want to use your car on cng then a big no for vario.... xli runs great on cng but the best option will be liana ff cng...

if you want power windows and stuff then no to xli vario has all this but then again liana also has all this except power side mirrors

and if you want automatic tranny then the only choice in this price range is vario.
its all about power to weight ratio...

Thank you. I have no preference for A/T or M/T. Also I m not going to use CNG neither am I going to buy Liana. I just want a car for my family which is durable, and safe. i have heard that XLi has very bad brakes plus it also has problems with shocks. The only attraction in XLi is the price and that it has more space. I just do not want to end with a lemon for the next five years.

I would recommend a M/T Honda City as I am against products offered by Indus Motors Pakistan(poor quality, bad workmanship, etc etc).

City all the way. Its around 9laks now , auto, and delivered quickly.
Most leg space and biggest trunk . good family car , only thing is change the tyres , stock General tyres are pathetic.

Xli is 8lak 70k , doesnt even have central locking and u have to wait a lifetime to get it , if u book it.Premium is still more than 70k. Only thing with Xli is resale but u do not change cars frequently so tht doesnt matter.

Just go for city as the drive quality and fuel consumption is very good in city. Brakes are also good, no complaint about it.
Do'nt worry about space, city is much spacious. I have physically compared the space of city vs civic and city wins.
Also the boot is larger too (more spacious than civic).

Due to absence (or almost absence) of rear hump in city (as in all Honda Cars), the rear passengers are much more comfortable than any other car (specially on long routes)
My city has done more than 110,000 Km and not a single problem in engine yet.
You will get the power all package in city as compared to xli. The Electric power steering in city is the best of all cars in Pakistan.
Also the city is much greener to environment than any other car.
Spares are cheeper (you can check on Honda.com. pk site)

first of all,,i like ur id,,cause i am a civil engineer too.....coming back to the topic,,,well i think xli is not that bad car as being projected here......its brake are good ,,,no problem with them......the interior is grt,specious........ the engine is also very nice...most of all,,it has got the grace and looks ,,which city likes...city is not the type of ca u fall in love with.........the resale of xli is also extraordianry...........the only draw back is that u have to wait for 5 months at least to get ur car.....xli has got minor problems,,but they can be dealt with by some minor adjustments...............so my verdict is that u should go for XLI........city is good,,but xli is very good.

dude, remember,,i did mention in my post that it has got minor problems which can be adjusted,,,i meant to say that when u change the general tyres,,it will give better perfomance....................and so far as the link which is given by u is considered,,my advice is .......that watch closely..........i said that """dont go above 120 with general tyres"""""

changing tyres will also change the behaviour of xli........and i did mention that city is good......xli can be made good by spending little money.....and then it will be far beter to have it

Civilized_engr, you cant go wrong with the City IDSI then. Fuel efficient on petrol (avoiding crappy CNG in the first place), comfortable drive, spacious trunk what not. just replace stock tyres upon delivery, and you cant go wrong with it. happy driving !

Dear all, u people have been more than helpful. I went to Toyota & they told me to wait for 5-6 months to get my xli. Then I went to see the Honda guys, and they are selling a city for 929 in 50 days. Since I need a car quick, I have decided that Indus or atlas motors are not going to benefit from my hard earned money, hence i am planning onbuying the used japanese Corolla X 2002 for Rs. 1015000, with 1500 cc engine, cd player, sunroof, ABS brakes, adjustable suspension etc. And not to forget that it is japanese plus u get instant delivery. What do u think?

Good Decision. Just take an expert with you when buying the car to check if its not accidented, and that the mileage on the meter is authentic. Dont buy a high Mileage car.

    hi there..
it dependz on where u hav to drive it..if u hav to go out of city frequently then i dont prefer city..coz its not a durable car..
i hav a vario running in lahore, only once or twice i went outstation on it..
and there is som noise from interior..and the breaks,,,,uff never use general tyres..otherwise..
    toyota is a good car
i hav it running in d.g.khan and its performing good..breaks problem can be nearly solved by changing tyres, not offering the pwr.windows..but u can hav it on 15000..
so i thing go for XLI

    @ Civilized_engr
Why do'nt you buy Brand new 2006 model city VTEC 1500cc.
It is much better car than normal city and you can purchase it instantly from showroom (no waiting and delays). Comes with alloy wheels and imported tyres. Also catalytic converter and non-retractable power windows.

But you know that it is hard to find ABS in Pakistani cars untill unless made compulsory by the Law. (Nowadays our government thinks that life of rich is much valuable than poor).

Go for imported car only if you have some reliable source as there are so many things to look befare going for an imported car.. ie. the authenticity of data supplied by the importer and the cost of parts (if available in Market).

I think most of us should be aware of the fact that Honda city prices have been reduced by abt 50,000 by Honda Pakistan on May 22,2006.It can be confirmed from their website and was also advertised in Papers a few days ago...

Do u think a price war is going to be started between these companies???

When is Honda Civic new model due???
