Red face Which Oil for Honda City 2000 (Cars for more than 10 yrs of life)

    Hello...

I have Honda City 2000 EXIS A/T. Last time I poured ZIC A+ Synthetic 5W-20.

I have already driven my car to 6550km in 4 months. So when should I change my Oil. I drive my car only in Islamabad with maybe once a month exemption to Lahore by G.T Road.

Since summers are here and temp goes beyond 40'C, according to my knowledge 20 viscosity is not good for hot environment.

So I was wondering if you can tell/guide me what oil should I use in my car and how long should I keep using existing oil before changing and average mileage for new oil. Also the price of Oil.

And yes one more thing, since I am using synthetic it should go beyond what we used to do last year, to change oil every fours months or after driving 4000km. So also guide me on this context.

    Regards,
    Ahmed H Hashmat

old engines, and especially if the engine consumes oil, will require more viscous oil than a newer engine.

    Use at least xW-40 oil.

Mobil 1 comes in 5w-50 viscosity. Its fully synthetic but is most expensive.

Shell's Helix HX5 (yellow packing) is good enough. It is 10W-40, semi-synth, and more than enough.

Thanks for all your reply, appreciate it...

I, this morning got a call from ZIC company in Lahore as I posted same query to them. They are saying that if we go in desert or snow our body temperature don't rise or drop as its metabolism is controlling, same goes for car. And more viscous oil is not good for my car and I should keep with ZIC A+ with 5W 20 plus since its synthetic oil and I have already driven 2 lacs km so I should go till 7000 km and change!!

    ! What you guys say

lol....what a reply from these guys...

you should've asked them if they've heard of the term 'heat soak'.
You do need warm clothes when you go to the north pole and you do need a fan when you go to the desert.

Anyways, long story short, I use slightly thicker oil in summer because car is at approx 90-95C temps and in winters I use thinner oil since car doesnt even reach thermostat valve opening temps, i.e. 82C.

If your car engine is reducing any oil after few thousand KMs then I'll advise you shift to at least 5w-30.
