    Default From CNG to Patrol

    I have a Honda City Vario which I got converted to CNG about three months back and now shifting back to patrol as I have been advised by quite a few CNG dealers not to use CNG on vario because of some gearbox design problems, resulting in the wear of main gearbox shaft when on CNG. Anyway just wanted some information as to what things need to be done in order to move back to patrol so that I dont miss out on anything.

    City comes with CVT Continuous Variable Transmission, that varies the gear ratios according to various parameters. Now if the entire fuel system is changed, that means, atleast 10% difference in the power while car running on CNG, CVT is be calculating the gear ratio accroding to Petrol, while engine is running with 10% power stealing, hence one may feel a total lack of power during driving, but it shouldn't affect the gear box...!

    If you really want to improve the performance, you need to install constant feedback CNG system (Lambda Emulator) alongwith Advancer and Injector Emulator[although you should have the later two already installed], that will decrease the 10% margin to almost 5%, and you will feel the drive much better!

    If you want to remove CNG, nothing has to be changed, just remove the CNG Ventury, the Regulator, the Cylinder and the switch. If advancer is installed, you have to resume the connection interrupted by the advancer!

    theoritically speaking....a CVT transmission should better handle a CNG fed car...i can not imagine why there should be a probelm cuz CVT is better than a regular tranny due to the unlimited ratios present...which should enable the tranny to switch to the right one in time.

    @ajunaids
    I came to know about same problem happening with City of my cousin's friend last Friday/Suturday i was on Charade/Fiat hunt with my cousin & his friend told him about the problem (City was giving constant jerks either on petrol or gas on all speeds) we go to cuoples of workshop & found same comments from Mechanics. One of them say that it was the fourth or fifth case face by them & the solution was replacement of Gear box or in some cases was overhaulin & replacement of some parts.
    I dont know about the technical details but the problems was said to be coz of low traction on CNG or some thing like that.

    Hello!
    yaar totally confused and shocked listening that......
    CNG resulting in main gearshaft wearout :s.......
    i think u sould fell some low power on CNG...but vario not supporting CNG.....:s......Auto lacks on CNG i know that.....as power ratios are not that as given....but jerks :s......
    i think there must be some problem with CNG installation...is advancer working properly...? as mostly advancer won't setted properly resulting in much problem on CNG and sometimes on petrol also...

    CNG carries some oil and other residue which form deposits and gets stuck in air intake parts especialy idle valve.

    As i say above dont know about technical details but the problems ocuurs in drive gear not in nuetral so one thing was confirm that the problem was in gear itself rest of the CNG setup + advancer etc are working fine but mechanic says that he have seen this problem in four to five cars having CNG instaled. As i was not keenly observing the process of troubleshooting & left them & start searching my ride.
    I ll let u know details soon about further progress on that car.

    Well ...to begin with ... the car went really well on CNG giving an average of around 150 kms on a 55 L tank with AC and without much power loss. But recently there has been too much of a power loss ...no jerk though...the drive is still smooth but the milage has dropped to around a 100 - 110 kms per tank.
    Went to discuss with the mechanic...he gave me this story...then checked with a few other mechanics and finally honda dealers who said that they have repaired over 30 Vario transmission City cars during the past three months... That is what kind of scared me.... and yes I have the complete kit installed with an emulator and advancer.

    @ajunaids,

    Milage may drop due to some other reasons, CNG experts may guide u better but the jerks are the final effects after wear off ur transmission either on Petrol or on Gas.
    Let u know soon if got some more information about that
