    Default Steermatic CVT Issue

    Aoa,
I hope everyone's fine. I would be really grateful if someone can help me out with a recent problem with city steermatic. The gearbox has started making an odd noise when its in 'R' with the AC turned on. When you leave the brake pedal, there's a vibration and a 'garh garh' sound coming.

I got it checked at Honda and the person told me its a sensor issue and the pulses the sensor gives are weakened so he told me he's going to change the sensor which he did, but after 2 days it's started again. It's a worrying situation, please help me out.

    Thank you

    Regards

The performance is perfectly alright in D, S and 7 speed mode but its just making this sound and vibrating in R. And there's no vibration in P mode, nothing wrong in D with the brake pressed, its just in R it starts vibrating and makes a sound as soon as the foot is released from the brake pedal.

and nae nae its on petrol.

    [QUOTE=mustafa8228;4067825]What are the tyre specs?

Don't remember the profile exactly but I think the size is 195/60/15

and I got it checked at Honda and what the mechanic told me was the the faulty sensor and nothing wrong with anything else, but I can get the mountings checked. Just waiting for some help from any fellow who can accurately diagnose the problem from what I've written as I cannot trust the mechanics at Honda anymore as already I've spent some money and still the problem persists.

If the problem is only in reverse , in an open space drive her in reverse & observe , it sounds strange that only she is making noise in reverse.

secondly kick her down in D around 80km/h & check if she is making any noise just after kick down

the size 195/60r15 ( which would actually be 195/65 ) are much larger and heavier than stock ones , very unappropriate for city steermatic...

my civic is also having the same problem (since a couple of days) have to get it checked soon..

and goto honda fort , ask for foreman Majid sahab..

Tried that, the transmission's fine in R other than when it makes a noise, vibrates and gives a jhatka and then becomes alright once the car starts moving, the problem's just in the beginning when the brake is released.

when kicked down in D, it accelerates smoothly no problem with that.

Good that she is performing fine in other modes

The problem seems in engaging & dis engaging in reverse did you tried , moving leaver in all positions while pressing brakes

Do it just after starting & also after 5 minutes of starting

    before starting the experiment ,
Make sure ride is on flat surface
Put her in neutral & engage hand brake
Now start moving lever in all positions & observed , especially in "R"
move around PRND & also observed RPM drop/raise

Hanje I tried that, what I've noticed now is that when its in R without AC turned on, it feels like a slight additional sound coming as theres some load but its not much but when the AC is turned on in R, then the major noise and vibration comes and garh garh and jhatka.

IF - ONLY IF - the noise / vibration is in R - time to replace the transmission insulators ( mountings ) anything wrong in the CVT steer_matic performance will be like dragging and high fuel consumption. While doing the transmission mount check also cross check the engine mounts & front shock absorber mounts for any cracks or hard rubber. Replace all bad mounts
