    Default Engine light question

    Guys,

I've recently brought the new City Prosmatic and my question is regarding the yellow engine light. It was always a norm for Honda cars that whenever the key is inserted in the ignition the engine light switches on and then we must wait till it goes off to start the engine. This is written in all Honda manual, however, the manual is silent on this matter in the 2009-2014 model....and best of all, the Honda dealership does'nt have a clue to what I'm saying. Is there any expert out there to help me?

The light will go out after you start the car not before!

Does your City have a Diesal engine???? lolz .... Coz the behaviour that you are describing if for glow plugs used in Diesal engines ....have driven City and many other efi Petrol cars number of times...never experienced this....Check engine light should only go off when Engine is started...not before until something is wrong...

the oldschool Honda PGM-FI system had a check lamp behaviour that is true as the OP says, the wait was 2 seconds and it was timed with the fuel pump priming the system,

    the act was

1 - key the ignition to ON
2 - you see all lamps come on but the check engine goes out after 2 seconds with a pretty decent click
3 - you start the engine.

The click was the main relay de-energizing after running the fuel pump for 2 seconds.

The newer ones dont do that and sort of follow the age old toyota principle of "crank to prime"

Don't know how much 'Oldschool"are you talking about but PKDM City 2000 onwards and Civic 1998 onwards(not sure about 1995) plus no other PKDM Petrol car after 2000 onwards have this behaviour....The only light that goes on and Off like this in these cars is ABS motor light..

He probably means all Honda engines with PGM-FI, i.e. D15B, various other versions of D15, D13 and D16 engines, inlcluding our very own SX8 City.

yep - all oldschool Honda A,B,D,F,H,G engines had this. KOEO = fuel pump FLR pin running the pump for 2 seconds via the main relay. The CEL goes out after those 2 seconds.

If there is a wiring error - the lamp stays on and also stays on after start.

In some cases I have seen some "zabardast cheeta qism ka electrician" install a diesel glow timer with 2 second delay for the CEL after he installed a duff ECU or broke a sensor or wiring plug. They can easily get away beacuse for them a revolving engine = FASS CLASS - kaam poora

    lol

    @ capsat.

Honda were probably doing this same "horse face" when all the little kids were taking class from GM in "automatic transmissions"
