    Default Honda City overheating

    Salam,
    The latest problem in my car Since the last 3 weeks the car tends to overheat reduce water and water boils in the reservoir after a drive of more than 10 mins. the red light starts blinking and i stop the car at the nearest fuel station or commercial area which in Karachi isnt very far
    The car has no coolant (tap water) T stat valve is installed and fans are direct and A/C wasn't used
    Now i showed it to a mechanic here in my area he said that the pipe which goes from the water pump to engine block is leaking and needs replacement he touched the lower part of the pipe (where it goes into the engine block) and water was on his finger i checked it too but yesterday when i went to plaza to get the pipe replaced the mechanic said that your fan isnt working (1 out of 2 was working) because its shroud was broken and the motor was bad so replaced the entire thing with a kabli one we went from Saddar to nursery to drop off the person I went with and after going like a few meters ahead the stupid red light started blinking and water was again boiling
    After getting a replacement fan for 4k im really pissed apparently their is no leakage but still the water the water level decreases and the starts boiling
    what could be the problem ? And because the stupid car doesnt have a heat guage im not sure about the temperature

    another things is that the car is consuming water like we started from Plaza went around plaza and the reduced water in both the radiator and reservoir then again parked the car at SM law college went to my dad office came back after 20-25 mins opened the radiator cap again water level decreased in both
    Since we changed most of the stuff related to the cooling system the only two things that are left are the head gasket and and water pump

    1-Do you see water leaking from under the car? I hope you ahve checked for leaks.
    2-Does the motor mis fire for a short period of time when started from cold? You would also see alot of steam from the tail pipe on cold start.

    no apparently there are no leaks from anywhere
    and no didnt notice any misfires

    Coolant goes through alot of places.
    In a simple car like my cuore, it passes through the cng kit, carburator and gear box.
    Get your car pressure washed and look for coolant stains.

    Yep.
    They are designed to operate at a certain temperature and the coolant flow ensures this.

    Just got back home
    Okay now after spending 10k and 12 hours at the workshop the cars finally back
    The water pump was faulty the rotor thingy was corroded and the pump was somewhat jammed
    The pipe going from the waterpump to engine corroded internally
    Several rubber pipes were replaced
    The head was opened and was faced but we told the guy to shave off a paper thin layer
    and Gasket was changed

    Currently both fans are direct and the car has no Tstat or coolant
    will go on Saturday to get all of the above done and A/C in working order
    strangely the car feels better to drive now
    also got my cars head lamps cleaned and buffed best RS 400 i've spent on the car till date

    Congrats! It is my request to you that please ensure that you replace the tstat valve with a genuine item and setup the fans to run on auto.

    your issue is still not resolved?
    this over heating issue is a serious kind of pain that i had been through n no matter what u do, n get all work done, it wont leave u but will keep haunting you

    its resolved , at least for now
    the red light hasn't turned since yesterday and temperature is under 70'C and the car runs perfectly fine Alhumdulillah

    I got it from naheed super market. I really think it is the best product available for fabric in pakistan. Removed grease and oil stains from my carpet in a breeze. Highly recommended.
    Pretty cheap too. 650ml for 175.

    need xperts openion.

    my 2006 city fans are direct and once i make it on auto car was heating up quite alot. now again it was on direct. when ever i start the car, quickly i check the water in radiator it was a glass less, and when i open the cap water flows like a shower, (one thing to mention a cool engine just started and opened the cap water flows).
    one of the mechanic said your gas kit was gone thats why radiator is making gases in it and let the water flow like a shower.
    i have also observed that while driving on CNG the RPM meter dance, going up to 1000 and 500 and soo on. when applied brakes RPM goes down to 0, i need to keep my foot on excelator else car will be off. AC i cannot run on CNG. it vibrates much more.
    for CNG thing i have changed the new Advancer and Kabli 4 coils. at start car runs ok and leter after some times RPM issue again came.
    one of the person said, due to gaskit CNG tuning make issues, first change the gaskit and CNG tuning will be ok.
    Engine Check light is on just after car starts. car is perfect on petrol with and without AC, runs soo nice and fast. trouble free.

    Im worried people says if once head was open then car starts making trouble always. is that true?

    Please help.

    dont believe people or mechanic for that matter everyone has different opinions and eventually you get confused get stuff replaced hoping that your issue is resolved
    i've spent alot of over this issue replaced lots of parts
    the culprit was a badly corroded water pump and clogged flange and pipes
    now since this car doesnt have a temperature guage you dont know your cars heating up until that stupid red light starts to blink and it goes on at 119-120'C and at time you engine gets fried
    get all the parts linked with the cooling system check and replace if needed
    to check if your car has a bad head gasket do the following
    on the first start of the day open your radiators cap and while looking at it start the car is water shoots up your head gasket shot

    Thumbs down Why?....

    One of the biggest item lacking in the City since 2004 is the temperature gauge. I really really wonder WHY Honda left out such an important indication? And it is not present till now. I rightly agree with Fahad.Ayub that once the over heat light comes on by then its too late to do anything. Really strange omission in car designing! Is there any aftermarket temperature gauge that can be fitted on City? I own a 2013 model and really miss this gauge.

    Dear Fahad,

    Thanks for the reply, i will check all the the relevant cooling system first.
    yes, when i start the car in cold, and opt for water in rediator when the cap was opened the water jumps like a shower. there is no way i can open the car when it was heated. one of my mechanic said engine is generating gas, thats why bubbles are appearing in radiator. he also give me the hint of weak gas kit.

    step one should be Radiator cleaning?
    step two would be cooling system check up? or directly i go for Gaskit change.
