10w40 is good. As new honda engines uses 10w30 (less viscose). My honda has odometer reading of 97000 and uses havoline 10w30. 10w40 is recommended when engine gets little weak. By using 10w30 u can get more feul efficiency than 10w40. And at last, changing the engine oil grade and even brand is not good for engines which are more than 50000 km old.

Older engines means engine with old technology/ with more than 1,50,000 km mileage.

@wajeeh8 The car was on synthetic so continue with synthetic. It is a general misnomer that old engines cannot be driven on synthetic oil..Synth oil is the best you can use.73k driven engine isnt old.

As you live in isb 10w40 is not a bad viscosity at all.As your car is used to 10w40 continue the same viscosity and oil manufacturer an enjVoy

Janab 10W-30 aur 40 may viscousity ka koi farq nai hota aur 30 say 40 par janay say koi masla nai aur na he koi farq ata hay engine may
Aur ye old engine wali koi kahani nai hoti janab
Brands change karnay may zara bi masla nai sirf ye khayal rakhna hota hay k fully synthetic say agar mineral ya vice versa jana ho to engine flush lazmi hay warna ap ka engine gya
By the way my corolla's engine has clocked more than 270,000 km and i have been pouring in Zic A 10w-40 semi synthetic since 20,000 km(4 oil changes) and it has never ever caused any masla whereas every road side mechanic told me never to use this great as my engine is old and only use 20w-50, well proves that these jahils are so ignorant

if car is run on petrol use guard or leppon
i found desi kind of air filters more appropriate for CNG iddling issues
    change with every oil change
(i keep both sorts in my car according to usage)

yaar i have done a lot of research about engine oils. synthetic oils are best. but there is a point of concern when using them in an old engine. synthetic oils have ability of cleansing the engine, and it can clean the residual layer of old oil in the engine and exposes the metal to metal contact for a while, during this period engine is at great risk, then synthetic oil forms its own layer after 3 to 5 oil changes. i would not recommend grade or brand change in 73k kms driven engine. but the choice is urs..

Bhai, no need to flush the engine before using a different type of oil provided they r of same viscosity. U can switch back from mineral to synthetic as and when u want. They r compatible with each other. What do u think a semi synthetic oil is? : A blend of synthetic + mineral.

To OP, I have just switched to 5w-30 in my city steermatic 2007 with 78K on odo and it has started to feel very light. The oil was Honda SM 5w-30 fully synthetic made for Honda by Total. Retail price PKR 2400/- I was told that its good up to 10000 KM but I plan to change it on at-most 8000 KM.

older engines means the engines designed before 1990s i.e pak suzuki ones

and all oils work fine if engine is in good shape no matter what mileage, i've seen 2.5lac+ km covered civics running on zic, kixx fully synthetic oils. if engine cannot maintain its compression then thicker oils are just masking the problem the same way dealers try to sell busted engine cars.
