Default CVT Start Clutch Calibration - The AUTEL Way

    ALHAMDULILLAH

I had been looking for a bi-directional scan tool since long and been saving up for it. Finally the much awaited tool arrived yesterday. And I thought of sharing it with fellow members along with posting the first tool application.

The Steermatic battery had completely drained in the past couple of days and the ECU forgot about the CVT start clutch calibration. Sadly this happens everytime if the battery is disconnected or it completely discharges.

So instead of the old "drive upto 60 and decelerate method" suggested in ESM, I thought of putting the tool to some use.

But before I proceed, I must thank the one person who made it possible for me to decide. Without his input, I would have ended up with a wrong choice or some chinese clone.

The one and only, our teacher, our automotive mentor, our guru and our respectful elder brother @Xulfiqar bhai.

    Thanks alot Xulfiqar bhai.

    Question: So whats my point:

The point is: when your CVT starts giving poor idle in D (excessive vibarations), and idles itself all fine in N, you would want to calibrate you r transmission start clutch. Most Honda dealerships and some "gheroo-program" mechanics advise throttle body service, engine/tranny mounting replacements, valve body replacements and what not.

However, its just a couple of steps in procedure to get it back on road hassle free.

    Happy CVT driving. Cheers

    JazakAllah

Yes sir, it can access and reset individual control modules inside the vehicle and thus accesses ECU + TCU, EPS, SRS, ABS, Body Electrical etc etc.

Regarding your particular question, i think I saw the EPS Torque Sensor Calibration while going through the menus

To further add, the thing that surprised me is that the new cars PKDM have all the Electrical signals testable. e.g, you can ping the MICU for headlights turn on, radiator turn on, A/C clutch test, turn signal test WITHOUT any input to dashboard switches

I dont think the MICU of older PKDM honda versions was this much advanced.

Good stuff, how's the delay time on this? I've the Toyota mongoose cable (duplicate) for techstream but the delay time is pretty horrible (depending on the stuff refreshing), .5sec-1.5sec+-.

p.s still gets the job done, better to DIY scan/fix yourself than to pay the dealership 2.5k for every visit

Thats too much a time delay at your end. Here, its pretty fast. Bootup time is also about 5-10 secs.

However, when you connect to each vehicle and start establishing the fist session, here it may take upto 30 seconds to fetch all the supported functions for that vehicle. These fundtions are OEM and model specific and are generally beyond the scope of standard OBD2 diagnostic. But once the list is fetched, the troubleshooting and going through subsequent menus is pretty fast

    2.5K

Thats too much to pay per visit. For Fun only, what would you advise I should start charging??

I may not be able to disclose the C&F price. We'll meet some day and I'll surely cut you in on details. By the way, big fan of your DIYs.

I was successful in calibrating the CVT clutch on the Steermatic by the jumper method, didn't notice any difference though, guess it didn't go out of calibration even after removing the battery.

P.S: that is a very nice diagnostic tool by the way.

Yeah, I can do all the same except proper live monitoring (because of the latency). About the charging part,

Dear brothers, you'ld have to excuse me on not disclosing price. The order was placed at Amazon after going through reviews and verifying as a trusted seller. Add shipment and Customs and you'll have your idea.

I used to do a lot of EPS work, most people are nawabs in Pakistan and palm the steering like a "lattoo" - which overheats the motor and cooks the controller too. EPS is not even half as heavy duty as the old hydraulic systems.

Usual cases were the 99 accords - it has a terrible system, the car is very heavy and the motor heats up very fast.

This tool can interrogate the EPS of Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, etc.

rustam - you have entered a world where you cannot go back - the fascination will lead you into the deep depths of it - specially if you like to play with electric networks.

connect it to a chrysler (if you can - there are some voyager vans in Pakistan) and see how it commands the 4spd ultradrive to shift - and then see what it does if you have the wrong ATF in it.

its more like this - if you want to act it like a drama

command center - SHIFT INTO 2nd speed smoothly
control feedback - yessir - shift is too quick
command center - release immediately - initiate shift again
control feedback - shift too quick...
command center - release and initiate again
control feedback - shift too quick and ATF is starting to heat up.
    command center
