Default Advancer Removed. Honda City 2005 Manual

    AOA,

I had an issue of engine knocking in my Honda City 2005 (manual). Tried various methods like, using Hi-Octane, tappets, full tuning etc but the problem persisted. Surprisingly the car runs quite well on CNG and no knocking at all(which I used only once in last 6 months).

Today an electrition suggested that issue seems to be with the Advancer. He has REMOVED the Advancer and installed some "cutout" (may be its some kind of relay or what). He said that its now direct and it would also make sure that fuel pump wont be used while on CNG which would increase its lifetime.

I drove car to office and there is slight improvement but knocking is not completely gone yet.
Question: Removing the Advancer and just adding a cutout is the right thing to do??

    Please help!!!!!!!

Yes, the issue is your stupid mechanic and his idiotic logic. If vehicle runs fine on cng, then that directly indicates that your spark plugs and ignitions coils are ok but yet it knocks on petrol. Which indicates a problem with fuel delivery mechanism and What else can it be possible???

Clogged fuel injectors, because you never changed a fuel filter on time.

There is never pinging or knocking on CNG. Change your mechanic and install the advancer back. Throw out the relay, cut out or whatever he has put in.

OK, Now a general question, what are Advancers installed for and why is my car still running fine without an Advancer installed? In fact, I felt a little improvement in the drive without an advancer especially in small gears.

Not yet sure about the impact on fuel consumption though. A general information about this topic would really help saving me and others in future from such bad experiences.

some time back i had the same problem in my civic 02 manual, used to be perfect on cng but severe knocking on petrol, did many things for the solution but found that fuel pump was faulty, it wasnt supplying the required pressure thus engine used to knock.
