Question Honda City Aspire 1.5L MT revving too high

    Hi Guys

My apologies in advance if this has been discussed earlier, but i could not seem to find an answer on PW forums.

Recently bought a Honda City Aspire 1.5L MT, took it to Islamabad from Lahore via Motorway and then all the way back, and I could not help but notice that the car revs too high at normal highway speeds. in my experience with City 1.3L manual, the car stays comfortably below 4000rpm (around 3.5-3.6 mark) at 120kmph, but my car is constantly at 4000rpm throughout at 120kmph whereas I believe due to better Power/Weight ratio the engine should not need to work as hard as a 1.3L vehicle. Due to the same reason, the car is making a lot of engine noise. Is this a cause of concern? mileage as per the ECU as well as manual calculation in-city and on motorway comes around 12km/l

    Attaching a picture showing 4000rpm at 120kmph 5th gear.

Honda City Aspire 15L MT revving too high -1696844

Anyone else has experienced something similar? or is this going to get better after sometime and/or an oil change?

also, despite getting the vehicle alignment and balancing done after a tyre change, I felt that on highway at 120-130kmph the car experienced weird instability like experiencing crosswinds/sideways wind drag/slip. I looked at the trees and they were completely static so most probably not crosswinds. Should I get the alignment checked again? it did not happen throughout the 360 odd KMs on the motorway but happened pretty frequently and randomly.

What is the use of 1.5L if the rpm is higher than 1.3?

the 1.5 manual is offered with shorter gear ratios to give a sportier drive as most people who opt for 1.5 go for prosematic.

the stability issue might be solved by wider tyres(which you say that you've already changed), wheel balancing and alignment again(sometimes they don't do it properly).

well that is extremely disappointing. while the vehicle performs great within city, on the Motorway its not pleasant with that high revs, loud engine noise and reserve tank hitting by the time you enter Islamabad.

That crosswind scenario is common. I have felt that instability in almost every lightweight car.

About engine noise you can add liqui Moly ceretec because that's the only thing you can do without voiding warranty.

Is it really at a higher RPM compared to 1.3??? That's just useless then, the 1.5 should be more comfortable to drive. I second that, our 1.3 city is at 3.6-3.7k mark at 120 km/h.

That's some news for me. My City 1.3 MT does 120 km/h at 3600-3700 rpm. What is the RPM of similar speed of 1.5 AT city?

I have 1.5 M/T, this is no issue i think as its gear ratios are different than that of 1.3, it has 23 HP more than 1.3 so the performance should be different than that of 1.3. Fuel economy depends upon your driving style, i can get 16 with A/C and 18 without A/C on motorway/highway easily, the technique is that keep a very light foot on the accelerator and keep a look at instantaneous fuel indicator, try to keep it above 18 and preferably on 20, this will result in a very good average. On 120 i get 14 and above on motorway, you seem to be pushing the car hard and accelerating fast. If you follow the tip above you will get good economy, also your fuel average will improve after 5000 Kms, so no need to worry. Also try to change the tyre to better brand if you have stock tyres and get the balancing and alignment done.
For me, 1.5 is much better due to more power and better handling than 1.3 with a very minor difference in fuel economy(max 1-2 KM/L).

Your car's rpm remains on 4000 or slightly above at 120 km/h? I once drove from Hassan Abdal to Lahore in 1.3 MT, I drove at 130-140 km/h except the salt range. My car did exact 16 km/l.

Just for my lack of knowledge, how does better power to weight ratio improves handling? I've a swapped khyber with a bigger engine and I feel the handling is pretty much the same, in fact it would've been poorer if I'd kept it on stock suspension.

Honda city is designed for 1.5 engine and it is in this engine it is being offered worldwide, even india has this engine, so 1.3 is basically a toned down version for the Pakistan market which gives a lesser experience in driving(Like corolla 1.3 which is offered only in Pakistan).
