Default Honda city 2001 gaskit issues

    Dear all,

I am driving a honda city 2001 exis automatic since a few years now. The car has an odo of 295000kms. Lately i noticed bubbling in the radiator on ckld start. There is otherwise no reduction in oil levels or smoke from the silencer. I have two options

    1. Fix gaskit and drive till the engine lasts
    2. Get a kabuli engine and carry on (kabli engine swap costs around Rs40000)

Can someone please tell me the cost of fixing a blown head gaskit? And any suggestions in this regards

    Thanks,
    Xiovoxivmm

No pro buddy. But, that could just be trapped air in your cooling system, couldn't it?

get the car thoroughly checked it could be something other than head gasket, but a simple check will be to open the oil filling cap and check if there is sludge of oil+coolant. A normal car without any gasket issues should have a clean cap without any white/brown residue.

Secondly, drain the cooling system including heater core, and use a good radiator flush i.e: stp or liqui moly, Costs 750Rs and run the car for 10-30 KM, or keep it in for a few days on 3000-3500rpm with heater on full so it will also clean heater core, drain it and fill with distilled water only. Drive with Distilled water for one week and check if the water changes color.

There could also be a very minor head-gasket leak , which is your sign to retire the old engine and get a new one. Engine overhauls are not very good for your model of city and they donot tend to last as much as the new engine did i.e: 300k

    Dear Djaymx,

I checked the oil cap but it was clean. No sludge but when i removed tapet cover i found a lot of gooey dark chocolate brown sludge inside the tapet screws.
In case i decide to get gaskit repaired which i am considering, since the engine is not burning oil and there is no smoke from tail pipe i have a concern.
My father had a civic 96 and he had gaskit changed. The imported gaskit is metallic and when these mechanics change it, they make facing on head but the block is as it is. So the car started getting heat up on metallic gaskit. He then had to get the local made soft gaskit. The engine worked fine for a while but then after about 20000kms it blew up too.
    So still confused....
    Please advice.

    Regards,
    Xiovoxivmm
