    Default Lancer 1.6 GLx OR City VTEC Steermatic

    Salam Bhaio

    I am on verge of a buying decision. I would have made this decision last month but someone suggested to wait for a month and get yourself a 2007 model (which was a wise suggestion). So am planning to buy one of the subjected cars in Jan 2007 inshaAllah. I will maintain it for 5 years.

    I just need your help to decide which one to buy considering following points in their priority:

    Lancer 1.6 GLX (CNG) vs CITY VTEC Steermatic

    1. Drive quality
    2. Comfort
    3. Parts and repair cost (not the regular maintenance)
    4. market value after 5 years. (considering that a new model/shape of both cars maybe launched within next 5 years)
    5. Value for money

    PS. I also heard from a reliable source in Atals company that the prices of Civic and City Vtec will be reduced in near future to promote their sales. He did not mention when and how much would be the reduction.

    Here is what i think is the better car in each of your criterias!

    Drive Quality : LANCER
    Comfort : LANCER
    Parts and Repair cost : CITY
    Market Value after 5 years : CITY
    Value for Money : LANCER

    PLus i'd lyk to add one more criteria, which i think is very significant when buying a car!..

    Build Quality : LANCER

    The decision is yours, you can have further assistance from present owners of either of the 2 cars
    eg

    Basitirfan..etc etc
    RX-7? An RX-7? Really? I hope you know it's just a sports car with a washing machine under the hood.

    just remember one thing that lancer 1.6 was manufactured in 2004. if u r really going for it then it would be much better to go for slightly used with 10-15k millage. this would save u on max depreciation and 20-30k on registration.
    people who use Highbeams.. once day would suffer too bigtime. People who drive slow on fast lanes, remember one day a vehicle carryin ur son, dad might get late to hospital coz people like u. underaged driving will land u in bigtime trouble one day or the other.. And the Blue indication light on ur speedometer denotes "High Beams"

    Salam

    the shape maybe 2004 but the year of manufacture, as mentioned on the documents is 2006. So these cars are brand new.

    @gem_guy thanks bro, I intentionally did not mention the build quality cause Lancer is an obvious winner here.

    the vehicle with 1.6 engine was actually manufactured in 2004. while 1.3 was last manufactured in nov 2005.

    info directly from DEWAN.
    check from their dealer.

    vehicles are sold as 2006 models. if u would buy this in feb 2007 u would see it as 2007 model on local documents.

    1. Lancer (Japanese)
    2. Lancer (classed as a bigger sedan coming in category of Civic, Corolla etc)
    3. Lancer (Honda original Japanese parts are EXPENSIVE)
    4. Lancer (City has NO resale, VTEC has even WORSE resale)
    5. Lancer (Japanese, CNG, S/R option, plus above points)

    Having owned a Lancer here are my veiws:

    1. Drive quality : Lancer, havn't driven the City.

    2. Comfort : I personally don't like the ride of Lancer, its too "jumpy" at the rear end(maybe due to ff CNG)

    3. Parts and repair cost (not the regular maintenance) : City, Lancer parts are way expensive even compared to those of Honda Atlas and Toyota Indus(EG side veiw mirror for 4600 rs!!).

    4. market value after 5 years. (considering that a new model/shape of both cars maybe launched within next 5 years) : Man can't say but historically Honda will have better resale than that of Lancer.

    5. Value for money : Lancer, I presume.

    people ofter confuse the lancer for a smaller car due to its price, but the bottom line is that it is built to compete with the civic & rolla class of cars not the city and liana. (as mentioned earlier)

    withouta doubt i'd suggest you go for the lancer, it offers exceptional value for money.

    @ahsan1702

    Resale of Honda is definitely better than Lancer!!

    Infact not just Lancer, all Mitsubishis have extremely bad resale!

    Moreover, Honda original parts are cheaper than original Mitsu parts!!

    @takko

    i'm unsure about this, but maybe you've seen old and uncleared stock!...

    Once again I'm not sure!

    @hsnmz...

    As other ppl have said, this car is not actually built to compete with the City...

    but due to its less price, lack of features compared to Civic (ABS,1.8 engine,EBD,4 wheel Discs,CD player..etc etc)...It is actually the underdog of its segment!

    This is Lancer's Segment=(civic/corolla/optra/sunny/Lancer)

    But, since the features offered in City and its price are comparable with the Lancer offered in PK, I beleive the comparison between STEERMATIC and 1.6GLX is valid!..

    And the Lancer actually is the Winner in this comparison!

    I PREFER CITY
    CUZ CITY HAS A GREAT RESALE,
    AND PARTS R CHEAPER THEN THOSE OF MITSUBISHI'S
    VTEC HAS A 1.6 ENGINE I PREFER U MUST TAKE CITY THAT IS NOT A VTEC CUZ VTEC DOESN'T HAVE RESALE & 1.3 HAS A GREATER FUEL ECONOMY

    hi bro. i got delivery of my lancer GL 1.3 5 days back, and beyond ANY doubt, lancer is far far beter than city. i have drivem city too, but i m definitely confident that lancer is even better than corolla in all aspects. we have a corolla 98 at home as well, and i have driven the new one too.....but trust me bro, if u want each and every penny to be worth it, just get lancer........U WONT REGRET IT

    I totally agree with you ppl regarding the class of these cars, but still these two are quite comparable.
    Regarding resale I personally think that after 5 years it might be difficult to find a buyer for Lancer, it would be like throwing away the car. Whereas City may prove better in this case.

    How about the reduction in prices of Civic and City vtec in near future, I heard it from a source working in Atlas Company (Honda Atlas is making these batteries). I will confirm this news as to when and how much is expected.

    You cant really tell whts going to happen in 5 yrs.
    Just look at the mkt compared to 3yrs ago , big difference.
    But its up to u i guess , both are good cars.
    With Lancer u have the option of a sunroof.
    City has V-Tec , its faster than the Lancer.

    Had my Steermatic since March , hav enjoyed it a lot. Thers just some quality issues. Cheap materials. But its locally assembled so thts pretty much expected.
    Im also going to be buying a 1.6 Lancer in January , but will keep the Steermatic if possible.

    thanx @gem_guy

    @hsnmz
    as far as 1.6 lancer is concerned, i guess IF u have to go for one, go for non FF one and install CNG later on. WHY? cause i know few ppl who are having problems on their lancer CNG. and otherwise CNG is not being fitted ni Japan or somthing. its done locally, so my suggestion is that get it just like that and then go to a GOOD CNG mechanic. reason? the post-CNG problem help which u mite face inititally after installation, u can easily go to the mechanic and hold someone responsible. even they were offering fited CNG with my 1.3 by payment of 38K, which otherwise is too much u see.

    moreover, my choice of buying a car is different. if u dont REALLY ENJOY the drive of a car, even after keeping it for 5 years, its no use getting it in the first place, even if u r getting the full payment after driving it for a lac kms. dont u think so ? and bro, i wud request u just to test drive a lancer before u make up ur mind. and u know.....i actually did so...lancer, liana and city...all three cars i test drove, and in the end lancer was a winner by a long way
