    Default is honda city more fuel economical?

    ok i heard city takes up less fuel than corolla Xli, both being 1.3L.
    Can somebody plz tell me why?
    Also prove so by giving fuel consumption figures.

    theoretically it should consume less fuel than XLI cause it employs I-DSI technology which enables it to create lean burn whereas the XLI doesnt use any fuel modern fuel saving measure for e.g VVTI.

    Yaar memphis bhai!

    VVTi and VTech are the same thing. But i-DSI is NOT VTec yaar!

    To be honest, I do not know what iDSi is other than it being a marketing hoopla.

    City consumes less fuel because it is 1.2L (not 1.3L), it has smaller body, is lighter, has a lot less torque than the XLi, and above all, gets easily spanked by an XLi in 2nd gear pick.

    According to the Users' Manual, iDSI is employed at speeds higher than 80 kmph, so I would agree that it is a marketing thing. On the other hand it may only be needed after 80 kmph, but who cares unless you want to violate speed limits.

    well i had a city IDSO manual and it gave me around 13.5 in city (Islamabad). Now i have a City Steermatic and it gives around 10-11 within city

    BTW..City IDSI can be a deadly opponent after 100KMPH though initial pick sukz...but the steermatic rocks. I have easily beaten a Corolla GLI (upgraded XLI) on D mode. I bet if i go with manual override i can beat many 1300 and even some 1600 CCs easily

    city and corolla have same consumption figures. city can consume more at times if pushed hard. i know its hard to digest but its a fact. i have a corolla at home and it easily gives 14 in city driving. friends driving a city also report same figure

    @gogadrum:

    Steermatic beating 1300 cc cars? Well it should because it has a 1500 cc engine But still I think its over-priced and Liana Eminent Auto would be a better choice in the category, remember this one is Japan assembled.

    The steermatic even employs gear changes when in 7-shift mode which takes the fun out of it. The Proton Savvy (not available here) has a much better manual mode which even learns your driving style to be used when in auto mode. Though it would be pointless to compare with the triptronic of BMW Z4.

    @tazzix
    Bro, it's a wrong piece of information you got. Doesn't matter what the manual claims.

    iDSI is: Intelligent: Dual & Sequential Ignition. It's always active. In lower engine speeds, it fires plugs at different timings & at highes speeds both are fired simultaneously. That's the reason it kicks in after 4500 rpms. To save fuel, it can even virtually 'shut down' three cylenders at idle time or deceleration.

    @spectra
    Bro, that happens coz City ownes don't drive it like iDSI deserves. I give you simple scenario: coz it lacks pick, people simply try to push it harder & press the paddel to the floor, that spoils the entire consumption record. Whereas in more accelerative cars, they'd press it gently & car gives response, that's why they get the same fuel average. If you drive City wih very wise gear shifts & lighter foot, it'd give you a lot better average, my old one used to give 18 in busy road of Lahore. When you push paddle to floor, it certainly comsumes more fuel coz of simultaneous dual ignition.

    I don't agree with anyone on iDSI issue, it's a great engine, that almost equels direct injection diesel efficiency. It gives response like diesel engine, gives max torque at lower rpms (2800 I guess). It employes very high end & delicately balanced engine kinematics, it's got drive by wire torttle, it again burns what others waste, it's very clean in emission, it's technacially advance & innovative. And yet being 1.2L it still competes with 1.3L patrol cars.

    And for those who buy an iDSI & think that they've somehow managed to buy a sports sedan in 8.5lac.... stop dreaming!

    Excellent REPLY. Based on truth aswell. (Y)

    @tazzix

    I think 1.6 EMINENT is also manufacture in PAKISTAN just as LXi & RXi.

    And 1.6L JAPANESE version still costs more than 12 LACKs.

    Correct me if i m wrong.

    @gogadrum

    U got a real good car. Truly unique in its category with VTEC aswell.

    The entire rationale behind the iDSI is fuel economy and "decent" torque. Ive been driving a Vario and although flooring the pedal doesnt get you far, you do feel the engine kick in after 80Kph in the 3-4500Rpm range; below that and beyond that performance is satisfactory. Ive been beaten by a Santro, a Cultus and a Shehzore(yes one of these too), but you can take on any car after 110-120Kph(kinda late but oh well). Fuel economy is maximum in the 2-3000Rm range so in city driving just keep it there and youll get 12-15km per litre! Irrespective, DOHC RULES!

    same comparison can be made with the lancer 1.3GL, rolla XLi and city.

    @all the city is (i've heard) 1245cc or something whereas the rolla is actually closet to 1300cc, lancer is 1299cc and has an output of 88PS.

    @RedBull_ar
    You're right bro, it's really lot more than just couple of plugs per head - dual ignition concept is not new, but Honda has made this old dog to learn new tricks. They've done a great job & hard work creting iDSI. Technology & especially engine kinematic & balances are a step (or two) beyond the current tech.

    Not only this, but they also developed a whole new aerodynamic & futuristic body for the new engine, with bigger cabin spaces.

    Thanks to those who appericiated my reply.
    I love to defend City - people here always forget that it's a very good daily drive car that does all: what she was made for, in perfect manner - besides racing.

    And still if you're so desperate to race, why not to buy a Steermatic & learn to drive it in manual mode?

    Still, iDSI is not that slow, my late car used to do 60 in Ist, 90 in 2nd, 140 in 3rd & 165+ in 4th. I pushed it to 180 eaisly. That was an awesome car, but ended up in a bad accident, at that time I was doing 140, at around 1pm (rush time) on canal road, Lahore.

    Just one question? When you were "beaten by a Santro, a Cultus and a Shehzore" did you try shifting to "S" from "D"?

    If you didn't then I suggest you do that next time. I have never had any issues with the pick of city vario. Whenever you feel the need for speed just shift to "S"

    The consumption is great as well. If you keep the rpm b/w 2500 and 3000 most of the times you can easily get 15-16 KM/lt in City. On highways with same moderate driving i.e. keeping RPM around 2500, not exceeding 100 KM/hr you can get 20+ KM/ ltr....

    However it drinks petrol on high speeds... on Motorway you will get 14 KM/ltr max if you drive b/w 120 Km/hr - 150 km/hr.

    I should know.. we have three of them at home..

    excluding the factors driving patterns.. tyre pressure.. trafiic etc etc...which can ruin consumption figures...

    the 1246cc idsi city is capable of good fuel consumption..i have recorded as high as 16 kmpl in Islamabad/rawalpindi.. just dont get stuck up in traffic jams... 16kmpl including ..some airconditioning...in september/october..
    Do the environment a favour, Use less airconditioning .. and please walk to the shop to get a pack of cigarretes..its only a 3 min walk..
