@HumanGenius! na bro these tires are awsome, have great handling and cornering, but its just that these are performace tires and as you know the road conditions in Pakistan, these tires feel a bit uncomfortable and ride gets bumpy. so if you change these to some good Japanese 195/55R15 you will feel a definite change in the ride comfort. As i recommended earlier, probably on page 12 or 13 of this thread about tires (please check that post), my personal experience says that changing the tires to 195/55 really improves the ride comfort without effecting the speedometer's reading. I changed my Steermatics tires to Yokohama A539 195/55R15 and these tires are amazing.

About soking some cars I smoked my bros 1.8 Civic without any doubt. I smoked an EXi Civic (though I am not the race type but with this car you don't need to be one).

So far I have enjoyed every bit of this car and if given another chance would buy a Steermatic again.

Thanks bro for the info, also Sir Civic95boy claimed his Civics Bridestones were "awesome", so Ill believe the two of you .. Thanks and yeah I already read that/those post/posts of yours & other members. Do you know what would be the result of installing Pirelli P6 tires on a City 1.5 ? (Just wondering).

& Bro what about the "Steermatic" technology...!!!

yea me also is doubting a 1.5 Vtec beating a 1.8 Vtec, are you sure this is true, or that the 1.8 was driven by a senior or a female ?

    ASSALAM ALEKUM all,

@hsnmz: brother i did took your advice to change the tyre, but was unable to find yokohama A539 195/55 R15. instead of that i put YOKOHAMA 195/60 R15 db decibel es501.full rotation tyres. ride has become far for smoother and less bumpier and there is only 5mm increase in height that is like nothing.

i did'nt feel any reverse effect on my car after changing tyres.

bridgestone tyres are good but they r indonesian their is big difference in japs tyres and indos tyres.

@humangenius:steermatic have S mode added in her features.when staring the car in parking mode shift the gear lever in S mode instead of D.

s mode also works in auto and manual drive, there are three buttons on steering wheel.

2 on the left and right with ( + & - ) r for changing gears and one button says 7 speed cvt.

press third button once and on speedo meter u will see M, it means now u can drive yr car manually and change gears buy using either one of first 2 buttons. just need to slow a bit done when changing gears. u can see number or position of gear which u r driving on speedo meter they come upto 7.

    brgds and drive safe all.

    @Retrograde:

People here were claiming that i-DSi has the fastest acceleration in 1.3 Class. I said the 1.3 Lancer/1.3 Sunny are faster. Nowbody is talking of 1.3 Lancer vs Steermatic here.

I have driven the Steermatic many times, no issues with that. I "know" what the car IS capable of and what it "isn't" capabable of.

Talking of price vs performance, a 1.6 manual imported stock Lancer costs lesser (Rs. 9.99 lacs) and is faster. Again, no need to start off. I've driven both cars.

Third thing, Besides how can 1.6 sunny do 0-100 in 8.5 whereas the Civic 1.8iVTEC DOHC and Altis 1.8 DOHC have the same timings, i think the sunny's timings are exaggerated

I'll upload the acceleration videos of a stock 1.6 DOHC Sunny here on Pakwheels and give the links. See for yourselves. People who say 1.8 VVTi and 1.8 i-VTEC are 10 second cars are actually idiots or they can't drive. End of story.

@archon2001 db series tires are really great tires. these are noiseless and soft. I also looked to get these when i went to change my car's tires but these were not available in the size I wanted i.e. 195/55. So I settled with A539 which proved to be very nice.

195/60 is a bit bigger than the stock 185/55 and will effect your speedometer reading. I will give a small comparison below:

Tire Size | Tire Sidewall height | speedometer reading (while car's actual speed is 100km/h)
    185/55 (stock) | 101.5mm | 100km
    195/55 | 107.18mm | 98.1km
    195/60 | 116.84mm | 95km
    205/50 | 102.36mm | 99.7km

So you can see that 195/60 will show you 95km/h on speedometer while your car would actually be travelling at 100km/h. So be carefull especially on Motorway because at 120 you might actually be going at 128 or 130 and get challan.
Whereas with 195/55 the difference is too little and ignorable, therefore are recommended.
with 205/50 although these tires will look really dashing and will have almost zero effect on speedometer reading but will effect the fuel consumption.

@Retrograde changing the tires to good quality 195/55 will have zero negative and all positive effects i.e. no effect on fuel consumption, braking and handling will remain as good as it is, big improvement in comfort (you will really feel the difference). I remeber that with stock tires I used to feel even small pebels in the road but as the tires were changed all that noise and discomfort vanished. So go for it.

Yes Stock tires i.e. Potenza are a bit hard, if you check the Bridgestone website you will see that these tires are listed under the catagory of performance tires. now performance tires are always hard and thats how they give better handling and cornering at high speed. But in Pakistan, the road condition just doesn't allow us to use these tires and these get quite uncomfortable.

About smoking that 1.8 Civic, well it was manual. My bro was driving it and he is actually a very calm driver and never races or drives rash. Now as we both took off, he pulled away in the first gear but as he pressed the clutch to shift to 2nd, he lagged behind and then never caught up (CVT rules). But I am sure that with a good driver behind Civic's wheel, steermatic might give a bit of challange but stands no chance.

@tech_wiz bro may god help you.

    tech_wiz:

    1. While i agree that iDSI does not have good initial accelaration (i used to own one), at high RPMs it does good when all the 8 spark plugs fire simultaneously. but still it does not have good initial pickup. In 1.3 category, Xli/Gli and Lancer are the leaders.

    2. There is only one video of steermatic, I wish we had more, just see how it lauches despite being an auto.

    3. i bought my Steermatic in Dec 06 for 980,000

    4. Again U mentioned stock 1.6 sunny (manual), please do not compare manual with an auto, it ain't fair

    5. 8.5secs for sunny is hard to believe but if that is true then hurray for sunny!!!!! - but still accelaration is not our main concern for comparison. Remember sunny is 1.6 DOHC and Steermatic is 1.5 SOHC.

    6. 10 secs is for the auto version of iVTEC and VVTi. people have posted 8.5 secs for the manual version which is strangely equivalent to 1.6 sunny (manual)

but I value your comments bro --- you are a techy indeed

I request other people to give comments about 1.6 sunny's (manual) initial accelaration.

Thanks for info. Theres no clutch I believe-like BMWs steptronic technology.

    @techwiz
1.8 Civic is SOHC not DOHC !! Yea the Altis is D but 1.8 and 1.5/6 Civics are/were all SOHC.

    u4usman4u: thanks bro

and for the record in my earlier post (point 3), i bought the brand new steermatic directly from Honda Classic, Islamabad.

There is also a manual version of the new 1.5 city vtec but sadly not available in Pakistan

ppl what do u say, if one can master the 7 speed mode, it might be as deadly as a totally manual car, am I right???

@Retrograde, I drive in Steermatic M mode quite often, and it is really awsome. during rush hours I stay with auto because I found that sometimes when you are rotating the steering your hands are not in a good position to press + or - so its not very convenient. on hilley driving this M mode is a gift. Please keep in mind that in M mode if you rev the engine at high rpm it automatically shifts to the next gear. similarly in higher gear if you get very slow it automatically shifts down.

@HumanGenius no there is no clutch you just have to use the + - buttons

Just to see where exactly Steermatic stands, how about a friendly drag race. If any of you fellwo Pak wheelers got:

    1) Civic Vti (m/t or pros)
    2) Liana Eminent
    3) Lancer 1.6
    4) Sunny 1.6

then do reply. My steermatic (Karachi) is ready....
