    I was at the walton market today and met a guy who had cng installed in steermatic.I asked him about his experience. He told me that his ride had done over 50k kilometers on cng and was running trouble free. He said the installer had advised him regular tune ups and he was getting them every 6 weeks or so.

    Salam

    went for 20k service on saturday. All went well except for the plugs. They installed NGK BKR5E-11 whereas the originals were ZFR6K-11. when I inquired the floor incharge about this difference he said "hum to yahi daltay hain jee. purani VTi main bhi yahi daltay hain". Then I went to their parts store to inquire about the original plugs, but the guy there was unaware of it. I asked him which plugs do you use for Civic he showed me the NGK irridium (don't remember the model). On asking about the accord's plugs he showed me the ones i.e. ZFR6K-11 and said "sir yeh to accord kay hain City mein nahi daltay". anyhow when I insisted "bhai mein pay kar raha hoon aap ko kiya tension hai" then the floor manager agreed. the price for one was 725. So my advise to the steermatic owners is, when you change the plugs ask for accord plugs, as those are the ones that come original. Also the iridium plug price was arround 1200 and these last for 100000km. so in the end they cost you cheaper than normal ones.

    PLEASE READ AND GIVE INPUT
    I talked with a cng installer today. He had some interesting things to say about cng in steermatic. He told me that the failure of CVT in vario after cng installation was due to the inability of timing advance processors to change the engine spark advance in accordance with engine rpm's. As most of us know, i-DSI has an eight plug set up, two per cylinder. The CVT maintains constant rpm by varying the length of the belts in the transmission but since timing advance for cng is not perfect(complicated 2 plug/cylinder set up)it causes slippage/judder in the belts and as a result the tranny failure.Fortunately, in steermatic, the single spark plug per cylinder can be advanced easily and cng works it in like any other automatic.

    D (Drive)= For normal day-to-day driving, no quick pickup

    S (Sports)=For quick accelaration

    L (Low)= Mainly for downhill driving

    I saw a steermatic at F-10 Markaz which is on CNG and is owned by a rent-a-car dealer. I might check that for a day or two to see how steermatic works on CNG

    @Retrograde
    Please do. U'll be doing many of us a favour.

    I browsed a bit searching for judder/slippage in honda developed CVT's. Turns out the problem isn't limited to cng users. Honda of north america actually issued a service bulletin recognizing this problem and extended warranties to 7yrs/105k miles on honda developed vehicles employing CVT. I also found that the CVT judder issue was addressed by honda in 2006. Interestingly the cng installers i have talked to concur to this by saying that there is no problem of cng in 06 onward models.. Most of the times(almost 90% of the posts i came across) the problem arises due to a delay in CVT fluid change so make a point to replace that at honda's recommended intervals. IMHO, it should be changed even more frequently than those recommendations. Better safe than sorry.

    There is also a honda prescribed remedy for the judder/slippage provided you follow it as soon as the problem appears. The procedure is called "CVT Burnish".

    Details are as follows:
    Do a complete drain and refill with honda genuine CVT fluid. Then brake torque the vehicle in D at 1/4 throttle for 30 seconds. (about 1200 rpm). This will burnish the start clutch. Re-do the procedure 2-3 times(collecting and using the newly drained fluid)

    @RL589, please check the manual, some iridium plugs are mentioned in it. Honda also has iridiums that are installed in Civic. Their floor manager was asking me if I wanted to install these civic plugs, but i was just looking for the ZFR6k-11. So you can check those out, if they are as per the manual then go for them. At the end iridiums cost you cheaper as they last for 100000km which is 5 times longer than ZFR. whereas ZFR only last for 20K and cost half the price of iridium.
