Default Honda City idsi gets 26.2 km per liter

Guys, read this on web. Wondering in what conditions these guys test these cars - We never get such numbers with the same cars

Honda City idsi gets 26.2 km per liter in fuel economy challenge

Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd demonstrated the fuel efficiency of their Honda City i-DSI last weekend, in an event they called the F.E.A.T., or the Fuel Efficiency Automobile Test. And a feat it was, because the results were very impressive indeed.

Sixteen participants took part in the challenge which required participants to only adhere to an average highway speed limit of 80km/hour while retaining other the attributes of an everyday-sedan such as having the air-conditioning switched on during the drive, and luggage and spare tyre in the cargo area.

The challenge took them from Honda Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in Petaling Jaya to Cameron Highlands situated 5440ft above sea level, and to Bukit Merah. After a night’s rest, the journey back to Honda’s headquarters resumed. Conditions were set as if it was a vacation trip with friends or family. Each Honda City had four occupants besides a car boot full of typical items like vacation luggage.

The whole route stretched more than 660km, but the aim was to complete it using less than one full tank of a Honda City’s petrol tank, which was 42 liters, or RM80.64. AAM officials were present to measure the fuel level before and after the journey.

The result? The few teams got different levels of fuel consumption according to individual driving style, but all managed to complete the 660km journey using only the petrol in the fuel tank. The winning team comprising of Jimmy Ng, 27; Eric Goh, 29; Sim Chee Kun, 30 and Edwin Ng, 28 - they managed 662.5km on only 25.29 liters of petrol! That’s slightly more than half a fuel tank, or 26.2km per liter of fuel! Most of the journey to the destination involves the use of highways, but going to Cameron Highlands involves alot of uphill roads as well. They took back RM4,000 worth of prizes comprising Honda watches, RM1,000 worth of petrol vouchers, Honda Racing umbrellas and caps.

Much more than just a gimmick or a publicity stunt, this is the real deal. I am impressed that Honda is confident enough with it’s i-DSI technology to attempt this challenge with real world situations where the results actually matters. No one goes around driving with the windows winded up and air conditioning off at the same time, etc as with alot of the fuel mileage challenges out there

Guys, I was wondering if the factory fitted pathetic Gurard Air Filter (Yellow Paper) one could be harming our averages? City comes with a yellow paper based air filter.

I used to buy this similar filter earlier for my CNG civic and the shop keepers used to claim it was for CNG.

Will try to take the pictures of the guard air filter and oil filter that come with the car :-)

maybe because of the new engine its giving such avg; but i dont think that it will go beyond 15 on motorway at 120 with ac and passengers. Maybe if driven at 80Km/h with optimum conditions and fuel and for a long stretch it gives avg in 20s. Right now my brother is pulling at 140

Maybe because of the new engine its giving such avg but i dont think that it will improve beyond 15 or 16 in city or motorway. Maybe on 80kph and optimum conditions and fuel and on a long stretch it gives near 20. Right now my brother is pulling it on 140kph so avg will be 9

    @ omaqsood

at those speeds, u wont get anytinng higer than 10-11,
city has a small engine, it cant hold high speeds easily, so highway milleage is not that different than city millege unless u keep it under 100kmph

these days im reving constantly at 3K, 100kmph on main roads, gettin 12.5kmpl,

Guys I will agree with it i.e. You have to keep it under 100 km/hr on a highway to get the most average out of little idsi engine - When you push it to even 100 km/hr on highway with AC on, the average is lost - you only get a 14 km/l one which you can get even within city driving -

100 Km/hr is nothing on mororway. So if average is lost then avg below 100 is useless for me.

Well I just bought the city 1.3 idsi and got the tank full. on first tank it gave me an average of 10.2 Km / litre with ac within city.
I know that with ac and within city average is not that good but comparing with the last one i had (1999 City 1.5 Exi Neo) it use to give me 10.5 within city and on long route, it gave an average of 13.5 with ac. Its a 1500 cc 16 valve engine.
Can any one tell me what is a good average on new city i should get. Even i took 2005 (just 14K km done) exi civic to abottabad and came back and it gave me average of 16.2 km / litre. I always drive at 120 on motorway.
I have 185 / 70 / R13 on my city and change gears at around 3K rpm. Will check its average on motorway too when i go out of city.

@lazers you will get the most out of it if you drive it up to 2.5 k revs only i.e. more like 80 km/hr on a highway. Try this style of driving - You should hit 13 km/lit if you are not stuck in too long traffic jams etc

I recently converted my 1.3 city 1999 to 1.5 D15B engine. Gave me 13.5 on motorway with A/C full time on and speed 120kph. I havnt tuned it yet (timing) and driving as is. City driving with full time A/c is abt 10 km/l.

The engine block of iDSI says engine model number 12Z something which makes me think if its 1200cc insted of 1300cc. This may explain the lack of power.
