The CVT transmission gives way while running on CNG. Experts shall be able to elaborate further on this point. Try getting a M/T instead. Wish you best of luck, you need it

sir i wont recommend u to buy a vario coz its tranny gets screwed with CNG. one of my aunt faced the same problem and had to sell it on very low price. this problem has already been addressed on PW.

    Dear Mirza

Yes on City Vario it is not recommended to install CNG, If Cuore Auto suites you it is proven with me from the last two year (50,000 km) without any problem of auto trans. Just replaced the oil and filter on half time (20,000 km)
IT IS NICE TO BE IMPORTANT, BUT IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO BE NICE

you heard absolutely right. my uncle's Vario had its gear box blown off twice due to cng. cost him Rs. 35000-40000 each time. Spectra also seconded this.

mirza_yasir.... I hope you got my email....

As for the experts, Can anyone actually give me the reasons or reason why the transmission fails... Cuz i've been using CNG on my vario for the past year or so without any problem whatsoever.... Is there a possibility that the transmission fails due to wrong installation of CNG steup or something like that....

And please dont give me the answer that this has been discussed on some previous thread as it has not been... the only thing discussed on all those threads is that the transmission fails and blah blah... why does it actually fail?? Nobody can explain !!!

A very close friend of mine is a very proud owner of a 2005 city vario with cng. he has faced no problem at all. i also had the pleasure of driving tht city a number of times and i would say, not much of a difference between petrol and cng. it all depends on the installation and maintenance of cng kit.

i saw someone mentioning that CNG on CVT fails if you car turns off while you are in gear like D, it affects the transmission.

If CNG is installed properly and you car does not turn off abruptly then i guess it will be ok

one of my relative installed CNG in their vario a couple of months back and so far so good

thanks to all of them who replied.

Well my prob is quite complex here, i want to buy city because there r many reasons one of the main reason is that m going to purchase it under govt scheme for disabled.
Secondly m purchasing it coz i have to go from chakwal to islamabad twice a week for dialysis(actually one of my relative is financing it for this reason). So for this prob i need a car which is comfortable. Now under govt scheme the car should be less than 1350cc and it should be Pakistan assembled and i dont think any other car fall into this category except Coure which i dont want to buy as i already have a small car Mehran converted to auto trany and hand driven which does not full fil my requirements of going to dialysis.

I thought of buying 1.3GLX Lancer Auto but it is not Pakistan assembled and does not fall under scheme, i m not sure on this but i ll work on this.

Now in present situation i hav only vario, so give me ur views on this as much as u all can .

    @junaid
    i got ur mail

bro just dnt b screwed.get city vario, get it converted ttoo cng.BUT do make sure u get it done frm a good mechanic.get advancer, emulator and also lambda oxygen censor.wid this configuration,ur car wont give u any problems.as simple city mt is fine widout lambda but AT wud work well with lambda censor.

so just go for it thats the only choice u have and keep good care of ur car it wont let u down.

Even honda dealership does not have an appropriate answer to this problem. They only tell you that they have 2 dozen cars with transmission problems and all are cng. In your situation. Say BISMILLAH And buy one. You are doing it for a good cause. I have a gut feeling that You wont face any problem.

BTW i went to Honda showroom today and they were talking something like spectra said.

One thing i dont understand if there is some problem with cng on vario, then y the transmission is affected, y not the engine.

    Check your inbox.

Here's a reply i got from kkool(rizwan) when i asked him about converting my steermatic to cng.

City Steero is a Vehicle which has many inputs going into the ECU of Engine and the Transmission, these inputs originate from the On board Sensors such as the TPS(Throttle Positioning Sensor) and the MAP, AFM etc.
The Distributurless cars have an advancing curve that is stored on the Ecu of the car. this curve is played with to advance car to about 18 Degrees when on Cng . It is must to advance a car to get optimum levels of pickup and consumption on Cng.

anyways to cut the story short you can get and use Cng on this vehicle normally. Your installer has to be extra smart. He has to advance the car only through Map or he has to use a Crankshaft Advancer setup, if you cant get an CKP advancer. you have to say goodbye to the advancer and drive the car without an advancer. this will cause a 10% decrease in the efficiency of your car but your car will be realiable and nothing will happen to the transmission,

If somebody uses the TPS for advancin the car your car would normally misbehave and damage can be caused to the transmission, the damage is not like the transmission gets busted and the car no more moves as Pakwheels kid world must have suggested you that CVT gets this and that.

The problems caused are aggressive shifting and usually a worn out oil solenoid.
