Default 2003 Honda City Vario - Auto Transmission problems

Guys, a friend owns this car and is having some trouble with auto transmission. Transmission shifting up behavior is unpredictable. Its not smooth but jerky, it feels as if shift up timing is not correct. The car shifts up from 1st to 2nd and 3rd and up unevenly and with a noticeable jerk

He consulted with a mechanic at a Honda Pit Stop in Lahore and he said that it needs transmission oil change, which will rectify the problem, but to me it seems as if there's a bigger problem then just transmission oil change.

Has anyone had a similar problem? What could it be?

    Thanks in advance

I don't have any idea about what is causing the problem, but Vario cannot "shift" up or down. It doesn't have gears; it has CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) based on pulleys.

this has been the problem with vario since the start... ure gear is probably screwed n it costs a hell lot to get it repaired.. go to 'filter house' montgomery road and get liquiy moly CVT fluid n put tht in n try if it works or if possible get high quality synthetic CVT transmission fluid from somewhere.. might jusst solve ure problem..
u see honda assembled this car here but they put in crap CVT oil which really doesnt hold up well especially with more stress on the gear due to CNG
    hope this helps..

    Thanks for your input guys

civic_turbo - The mechanic also suggested to change CVT oil, which could solve the problem. How much do you think it would cost to put in high quality CVT oil. Also, if transmission is screwed, how much do you think it would cost to repair.

Retrograde, The car does not have CNG.

Honda pit stop guyz are right,

CVT oil needs to be changed after 40K kms, and the transmission is prone to give problems if CVt oil is not changed at the required milage. Hope the transmission is not permanently damaged!!!!!!

The CVT oil change fo city costs abt 2000 rs.

Honda pit stop mechanic is correct. Your city's symptoms are suggesting that it needs new transmission oil. Should have changed it according to the schedule. Looks like you have never changed it in 5 years.

Hi, My honda city vario 2004 makes some terrible strange sounds when I put the lever on D or R. I am a bit confused whether this sound comes from engine or gear. I recently changed the oil CVTF but even then it still exists.
Can any body have an idea about such problem.
