Default Sport mode in cvt transmission of city vario

A freind of mine was boasting that S position of the shifter in city vario donates sport mode and turning to 'S' mode results in exceptional raise in accelaration. Is this correct or he was just boasting. He was actually comparing that prosmatec can never equal 'S' mode in city vario. So what is the story after all.

Yes the S mode in the CVT does change the engine response and also the way that the CVT changes ratios. It is deceptively quick but I am not sure how your friend is trying to compare it to a prosmatec.

well buddy .. the real deal is tht. if u wud hav noticed tht the city has an iDSI engine which stands for intelligent Dual and Sequential Ignition~ and i believe u know tht there are two spark plugs per cylinder.. 8 plugs in total! so when ure drivin in nanny mode "D" and hav a light foot on the Play pedal (Accelator) the spark plugs fire sequentially .. one sparks..ignites fuel..then the second .. to burn off left out fuel..hence the good milage.. but when u engage the SPORT mode "S" or hav a Lead foot on the go pedal... the spark plugs fire at once... hence a high power KABOOM in the cylinder.. hence boasting accelation... No wonder it won the Japan car of the YEAR in 2002.. (actually its hatch back version called FIT in Japan/ Jazz in rest of the world won..) but u cant BEAT a Prosmatic equipped civic with it...

well as much as i knoew bout this cvt issue is tht, in D mode u have virtual 7 gears, while in S mode u get Just 3 gear to whop upto 180km. to roughly meaning ur running 1st gear upto 80km, not sure though....and engine too revs upto 6000rpm and throtle response becomes faster....

    Question for Slayer :

Hi, good analysis on the spark plugs firing sequence in City CVT version. My question is how do the spark plugs work in reference to firing or igniting sequence in the manual gear version of the same car ?

    hello!!
    good question amjed!!!
well its a fact that distributor works in single pattern like if it gives spark on both plug in a same time so it cannot be changed with gear orders... it works same like it is working on either d or d2 or else.... reason i think is that in "D" mode all the ratios are in touch but in "S" they have set specific ratios for quicker response

    well answered
    ure funny man!
cause u know wht city doesnt even hav a distributor!
    fuel injection buddy...
    hahahah

well the answer is k .. the computer has a specific fuel maps.. for light and heavy loads.. when ure light on the pedal it follows a differnt map.. and for heavier loads which are much more demanding on the engine.. its follows the other fuel mappin.. oxygen sensor also plays a part.. and yes du u know k city has ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING? means no leakin oil pumps to repair.. intresting.so supposedly it starts to work even if car is not started.. (thts ma theory..ill chk to confirm)

addykhn666 , there is no way the new City can beat a 1.3L Gli or a 95 Civic, and yours being an automatic makes it impossible. I raced with a Vario a few weeks back in my GLi and at 140 the City was literally swinging from one side to another. The Gli has a much bigger and stable body with a slightly better engine. The 2001 City can easily smoke a Gli and have seen one beat a SE Saloon.

im afraid not! no way until u boost it... even then ull have to install an after market computer... tht u can find from abroad.. there are a few avalible for HONDA FIT/JAZZ (the hatchbak versions are called in japan and englan respectively)... see the 2001 and 2004 city answer the transportation question differntly.. 2001's was just another plain vanilla sedan BORING.. the 2003/4 one is a sub-compact with the interior space to match tht of upper class cars.. its a practical way of modern city transportation.. man it even won the JAPAN car of the year in 2003 beating ure so dearly COROLLA ALTIS .(passion as u ppl know it)... same year it won another japeneese car of the year award.. one thts done by car enthusiasts and not just industry ppl... first time in history it happend k both award went to a single car.! the hatch is a real gem of enginereeing.. clues.. ever wondered why the rear seat is mounted on a bracket? a seprate sub frame i mean. thts cause the fuel tank is under the front seats..which frees up space under the rear seats... its not avalible in pak.. but abroad models hav seats tht fold flat to give a huge boot from the back of the front seat to the end of the boot.. or u can even flip up the lower cusion up with the back of rear seats to create a space in which u can put lotsa luggage or even put bicycles.. but its not happenin in paki models ALAS... anywayz HAIL CITY.. one of the smartest designs around .. ! enuff said

with respect bro GLI, ur wrong,
city wont sway at 140, but ur GLI might do, jsut look the the front angle of inclination of bonnet of city, its aerodynamics, and overall shape.

the car rolls at high speeds when wind clashes with the body, so more the aerodynamicity, lesser the roll,

for peroformance, Vario is CVT, stepless tranny, so u'll be busy changing gears in ur car, while the CVT in Sports mode (S mode) will have virtual gears to tackle a manual, so no gear changes in vario! agay ap ko pata hai

tech_wiz, indeed the new City is aerodinamic, but it doesnt come any close to performance. The engine is made mainly for fuel consumption, and not for racing. The old city didnt have an aerodinamic shape but can smoke a SE Saloon and a Gli anytime, and the new City must be a joke. If the new City did have a better engine, then along with its aerodinamic shape, would have been a winner.

sali2002 this is for you, distributor has nothing to do with EFI. Daewoo is an efi car and it has distributor. EFI is fuel injection controlled by electronic unit. So instead of carb preparing air fuel mixture, efi does it. Distibutor, genrates control timing of the plugs thorugh complicated router and timing belt or chain connection. Moreover it also has the coil which increase 12volt current to the level necessary for the spark plugs to fire, i.e. spark is made by jumping of current across empty space present in tips of plugs. So in city civic and for that matter on all full efi cars timing is conrtolled by ECU. But in normal cars all plugs has same timing. But in case of idsi there are 2 sets of four spark plugs having differant timing. So distibutor do not need to do timing. Now as i have said it also has coil which increase the voltage, now in most moder cars coils are palced directly on the plugs i.e. 8 plugs 8 small coils. If you have experience of non efi cars there are four high voltage wires from distributor to pluygs. And they get short after a certain time making you engine miss. So placing coils on plugs increases releability.
