    Default jerky stops in 'N' city vario

    hi guys .. i hv 2005 city vario, done 68K km.. when i put the car in N (neutral) from D (drive) when approaching a signal or stop...i.e in very slow spped, the car gets jerk, though very minor before coming to a complete halt .. is it ok ? or do i need to get something checked up ? worth to mention that while driving there r no jerks in gear shifting .. its a smooth ride n car accelerates at 1.5 RPM normally... thnx in advance

    you shift the gear to 'N' while the car is still in motion? i don't think you're supposed to do that.

    Now heres a lil' sane reply-------- theres NOTHING wrong with shifting to N during motion, its just that u lose ENGINE BRAKING (if any, especially in CVTs :-P ) . The jerk is just the cute lil' pulley in the transmission trying to adjust its position to a specific gear ratio so that u dont get hard time pulling the car when u switch to D next time :-) Enjoy ur ride!

    yes theres no harm in shifting to neutral. if it is then it might be ritten in the manual look for it. but do stop b4 shifting to R

    jerking is not a good sign m afraid. ur transmission might fail once in its life time or the fault will grow.

    Atlas Hondas transmissions are no good. there are "fitting" problems with the transmissions that they dont understand. i believe that 30 percent of them develop some sort of fault during their life time.

    well. thnx for ur elaborate thoughts .. but i think its a healthy trend not to shift before coming to a halt .. lets all develop this .. although we dont shift from D to N while pressing the gear button but if u do it and accidently go a lil further (i.e to Reverse) it may cause a big trouble..

    That's like saying "don't press the clutch until you come to a complete stop"

    @kashifashfaq4:
    When you brake (in a normal gear'd auto transmission), the car takes it upon itself to get out of overdrive, and shift down to the lowest possible gear (99.9% of the time for in-city driving, it's 2nd gear) When the car is in mid-shift (or mid ratio-change for a CVT) and you shove it into Neutral, the car will jerk a bit since you just disconnected the transmission from the engine, and the crank loosened up and lost momentum. There's no problem with doing it, but if it stays a constant problem, then make sure you tell us again. Do tell us if you hear any sounds while you shift into N- if not, then I don't think there's anything to worry about. Drive safe (Y)

    You know, if you coast (let go of the accelerator completely) with an auto transmission when you're in Drive, it uses absolutely zero petrol- ZERO. The injectors turn off, and the engine just runs off of it's momentum. If you switch it into N while you're in motion (or on a bridge in your case), when you put it back into D, the amount of fuel the engine uses to get it back up to moving rpm wastes the purpose of shifting into neutral in the first place. I guess you can save petrol by shifting into N at stop lights, but still i think it'll use the same amount.
