    Default Engine Oil for Civic Reborn Oriel

    Dear All,

    Which Engine Oil I should use for my Civic Reborn. Currently I am using Shell Havoline Semi-synthetic oil. But someone suggested me that its not good. Please need your suggestion.

    There are several Threads addressing this issue, I have already searched but couldnt get a satisfactory answer for Civic reborn.

    Thanks

    XQ is suitable for fast cars and A+ for slow cars? thats not a difference bro, please differentiate properly, why XQ if A+ is already full synthetic?? There must be some major difference.

    apologies if im wrong but last time when i used zic A+, probably year or so back, i vaguely remember that A+ was a group 3 mineral oil, with reduced sulpher?(not sure) content using additives which can be legally advertised as synthetic oil. its not a pure synthetic oil if abv is still true.

    that might be the reason behind production of ZIC XQ, which is a pure synthetic oil.

    but viscosity (at 40 and 100 degrees), poir point, flash point & viscosity index are all interlinked and there absolute values are mapped to relative SAE indexes.

    most SAE 50 oils will inherently have higher flash point then comparable SAE 30 oils, and most SAE 5 oils will have lower poir point then comparable SAE 10 or 20 oils. being a SL or SM also means it will have enough deposit, oxidation, etc protection required for his civic.

    bottom line is any latest decent oil is suitable for his civic.
    I used to think the same thing untill a few weeks back when i had this discussion in a previous thread too, i compared the specs of XQ 10W30 (fully synthetic) and Ultra 7 20W50 (mineral) and found that they both behaved in very similar ways regardless of the SAE rating (i'm looking into why still).

    as for the API ratings, it has been found that sometimes putting an SL or SM in a car which requires an SG may not be a good idea (however this mostly applies to porsches with catalytic converters).

    also the APi rating has little to do with the total additives in the oil, it's a rating to help determin the behaviour of the oil (along with some protection features) but every company adds the additives in different ratios and therefore the API rating is just a guide rather than a rule. but you are right that an API SL or SM will for sure have better additives than a API SF (for example).

    @all
    You must choose your words carefully when discussing oils.

    For example there are only 3 catagories for automotive oils, mineral & semi-synthetic, synthetic. "Pure" synthetics are what are used in industrial gearboxes. Please don't think for a second that ANY oil in PK is a "Pure" synthetic (polyalkyleneglycol), becasue if you knew what they cost & their application you'd probably understand my concern for using this term so loosely.

    great, seems like they have upgraded, xq and a+ both having synthetic base and zic A is a synthetic formula oil now. also noticed API rating has gone to SM from SL.

    glad that you are enjoying the oil buddy. it's surprising that more people havn't taken the plunge yet, specially since the PW exclusive offer is going to end soon...

    i hope as a petromin user you now realize why i chose to put my name behind the product.
