    Default Honda Civic - 1987 ...5 or 4 Speed ?

    Assalam O Alekum,
My dear Pakwheels brothers, we purchased a Honda Civic 1987 model recently. The gear knob shows 4 forward gears, but the car's engine shivers too much after 80-90 kms/hour speed, as needs to be shifted to 5th gear. I would like to ask all our experts out there, if this model of Civic came with 4 or 5 speed transmission ? thanks !

    Salaam

Honda Civic 1984-1987 is a third generation Civic , these outstanding vehicles uses the following engine type: ZA1(1.2L), ZA2(1.2L), EV2(1.3 L), EW2 (1.5L), EW3 (1.5L PGM-Fi), Model Name: AG (1300 2 Door HatchBack), AH (1500 2 Door Hatchback), AK (1500 4 Door), or AN (Wagon), Transmission Type: GW (5-speed), GV (4-speed) or AV (Hondamatic), with Basic grade, DX, S or GL.

In short yes your model of civic had a 4 speed manual transmission in 1.2l and 1.3l variants.

Hope this has answered your question .

Thankyou fahdchhapara for such detailed reply and updating info, but can you please tell me, why it feels like the car needs the 5th gear ?

    Salaam

Sir i exactly know what you mean , i myself own a couple of Japanese Nostalgic Cars. and all of them face the same exact problem , the car asks for a high gear which is sadly not there .

The reason was very simple , these cars had small capacity engines and were meant to be a daily city driven car, were speed limit was a major issue in Japan.(in short they wanted to restrict the top speed).top speed of the car is directly related to horsepower and gear ratio.

I may not be correct a 100% but as far as my knowledge is concerned this seems to be the reason.

    Hope i answered your question.

    bye.
