Question Difference b/w JDM and PDM Civic

First of all guys it took me 10 minutes to choose the most appropiate section for this thread. I dont understand why mods have terminated the "General Auto Discussion" thread. There are things which donnot have specific type or what ever u can call.

Anyways comming back to the topic. I have had an arguement with one of my friend. He was claiming that PDM civic is a junk especially when it comes to safety. As in it will suffer more damage incase of any accident where as the same model of JDM one will not. He himself owns a JDM vitz so he was pretty much confident that his vitz can smash civic hard.

With this arguement, i went to honda city sales GM and i asked him couple of questions and his answers were:

    1) PDM civic has only one thing which is local and that are "tyres". Apart from this even the stickers of ABS and green sun visor sticker is imported from abroad. Let alone bolts and nuts.

    2) Only the assembling is done in lahore where as software and all are imported aswell.

    3) Apart from cruise control, 4 less airbags and SATNAV there is no difference in PDM and JDM civic. The chassis of both variants are engineered to their best and the collision testing results are IDENTICAL.

    4) Even the glass is imported too [ie. SAINT GOBAIN]

Well that was the GM of honda city sales showroom. What experts have to say? Like are JDM cars that GOD GIFTED? Civic in specific?

Please note iam talking about JDM, not the USDM which has lane assist and bla bla. Its a different chassis with same engine.

Thanks and forgive me if this is the wrong section.

not much difference in jdm and pdm civic.
as pdm civic 90% parts are imported as you mentioned above.
main difference is the air bags
and this is what makes the jdm civic more safer...
cruise control is already in the pdm civics all it needs is a bit or wiring and a switch..
btw pdm and jdm civic will suffer the same damage on outside but inside cockpit wud receive more damage on pdm model becoz of the airbag thingy.
h0pe i did nt miss anything

Apart from the difference in features and strength, IMO the reason for JDMs to be rated above locally manufactured cars is the Japanese labor which is supposedly more responsible than local labor and their QC department which is supposedly more vigilant than desi QC.

Plus, I'm not sure what will the Honda Japan people do if one of the Civics falls from the trailer during transportation from factory to showroom, but Honda Atlas will probably get it repaired and sell it as a brand new car.

build quality is crucial in a car, poor attention to detail, cheap local components etc are killing a car which is already overpriced,.. yet our spastic people keep buying them.

seriously, is it an import or indiginous? they show the customers that the cars are 100% imports (which is BS), and then they show the government that they are PDM (again,.. BS!)

bottom line is get a trained japanese team to build a civic and then get a team of trained monkeys to build one,... the monkeys will still build the car better than the locals at honda in PK.

it's not just the kit which is important, but who builds it.

    1 thing
you always get a built in indash CDchanger in jdm...and you have an option of indash cd changer in pdm...to be very simple....JDm example that we still buy 05 vitz unreg as a new car...and it feels like a new car....better go for quality as quantity

while assembling.. theres a thing called tightning torque on each nut...
i would not trust the pakistani assembly to check each and every nut on the car.. they may even skip a nut or two...

for example a fender has numerous bolts to hold it.. but even if one or two bolts are missing the fender will still hold.. and thats where pakistani mentality jumps in..

these tiny details are what make japanese cars better than pakistani ones..

maybe if there was very strict quality control.. then there could be progress.. but unfortunately people here are just interested in minting money..

correct. once i took my new alto for its first service and there was a liana standing with its engine being overhauled...it was Applied For....so i asked what happened...and i came to know that the company guys forgot to install radiator fan at the time of delivery...and once the engine seized and overheated, they wudnt replace the car, and instead said that the max they can do is to get the engine overhauled for free, but were still charging for lubes

the problem is with every local assembled cars. starting from city to civic to corolla to anything u name

Still honda atlas cars & PDM Civic is not that bad... It depends on the driver, In Pakistan, every car driver wants ABS, Airbags, blah blah but don't want to wear seat belts. point is, ABS & Airbags won't save your life in an accident, bacause "Jis ki jo raat qabar ma likhi hai, us ko koi nahi badal sakta."

Still PDM civic is the best car to buy in Pakistan,

One more thing, it is 100% BS that 90% parts are imported,

The radiators, bearings or barrings, disk pads, brake disc, dashboard & steering, door handles, some plastic made stuff for interior & engine bay parts are all manufactured in karachi & lahore units.
Always remember, the best things in life are not things.

thats cause its the rite of every driver to get a "safe" thing when he pays for something.....these things are added features here in pakistan, and we pay highly for them, whereas abroad these things are basic essentials of a car, without which it can not roll out of the factory. and as far as luck is concerned, u r totally rite, but safety of us and our family is our prime responsibility too.....one must ensure all proper precautions. if something happens after that, thats offcourse His divine rights

    Agreed,

but in Pakistan even NEstle Nido is not original, its taste & quality is worst when compared with the same Nido (Imported) of any Arab country
& the same thing goes for everything, we even have to pay high for every crap local thing whether it is food item & the shop keeper or concerned person says this thing is 10% more expensive in dubai blah blah
