Default Poisoned catalytic converters in new Honda Civic (reborn:P)?

    Hi guys.
I have a 2008 Civic with about 24,000km (Prosmatec transmission). Since the last 2-3 thousand kilometers, I've noticed the the performance, especially the pick-up of the car has been sluggish and the fuel economy has come down quite a bit. My cousin has the same car in Lahore and faced the same problem at about 30,000km. He got the catalytic converter removed and that solved the problem.

I'm wondering if there are other members who have faced the same problem with this car. I would also appreciate if anyone can tell me where I can get the catalytic converter removed from in Islamabad/Pindi area and approximately what the cost would be.
    Thanks all.

There is a catalytic converter in new civic 8g.

normally catalytic converter of civic lasts for 50k kms but it purely depends upon the the quality of fuel you are using in your car.

Well I think there should be a catalytic converter in this because 90% of its parts are imported.

Umm, yes there is. I don't know about Cowrolla but the Civic and the new City both have cat-convertors.

    @Poster

There is a Catalytic converter in new Civic.

Infact one of my friends car is in work shop right now getting it cleaned.

The symptoms you mentioned are definately of chowked Converter.

Now you got two options, either to remove it or get it cleaned. What they do is take off the exhaust part having the converter in it. Cut it open just next to converter with a blade. Remove the chowked part with blade and blow high pressure air into it from both sides.

This process solved the issue for my TZ prado and I am getting better mileage and much improved pick

I recommend not to remove it all together

I recommed a workshop in Islamabad if you would like

@Storm, honda civic has one. honda City Steermatic also has it.

@AWK which workshop do u recommend. Any solution that doesn't involve cutting. If its life is 50K km then there should be some way to remove / change it without cutting

You can get another converter but they're pretty expensive; I believe its about 30,000 RS for one.

Removing the converter and replacing it with a straight pipe causes issues with fuel economy and the car starts running very rich. The smell of raw fuel is also pretty irritating.

Removing the converter should result in better pickup also due to easy out flow
