    Unhappy Assistance Required: Honda Civic Problem

    Assalam-o-Alaikum Dear Brothers
    We own a 2001 Honda Civic VTi Oriel Prosmatec (CNG/Petrol) (Mileage: 85,000kms approx)
    Since 4 days i'm facing this unusual situation. every day while coming back from office, after running around 15kms, the check engine light comes on the speedo, & after that engine stalls. if the car is started after a break of 10-15sec, it starts normally.
    - This has happened on both petrol & cng. (i usually run car on petrol once every week)
    - Such a scenario doesn't happen in morning (while going to the office), only in evening (while coming back home). office is in defense, residence in gulshan. this happens in the vicinity of stadium road(approx 15km from office)
    - Engine oil & oil filter changed around 3 weeks ago (600kms ago)
    - Gear oil changed approx 6000km ago
    - Using this car since 1.5years, such a problem never occurred before

    I plan to take the car to Honda Drive-In this weekend, but it would be alot better if fellow PWbrothers can share some info as to the cause of this problem, so that i know specifically whats wrong with the car. Otherwise Honda ppl can be very vague & charge exuberant prices without clearly stating the problems.

    Jazak-Allah.

    Most likely an ignition switch issue, I ran into that issue on my Acura CL, next time it happens, try to switch move the ignition switch back and forth right when the issue is occurring to see if it rectifies the problem.

    Crank sensor most probably.

    Specialy wen you mentioned it starts normally after 15-20 seconds., Also tell wen it shut downs and u start it at the same time does it start? or it starts some seconds after you think something might have cooled down.

    A partial weak or near to die Crank sensors perform okay, and die when hot and start working when they cool down. If the check engine light is coming then its probably the crank sensor.

    A dead crank sensor would cause no starting condition.

    Still get it checked by a proper mechanic preferably Honda.
    Get over the fact that Xli lacks power windows, Its an Xli because it lacks thoose features or else it would be a Gli or an Altis if had all the goodies.

    @mean_duke: or maybe the car has a crush on some1 living @ stadium road, thats y it stops there to hav a good long look

    @ chinyoti: i'll definitely get it checked thoroughly. i've realized now when the car will actually start, so whenever it stops, i usually turn off the switch, flick through all the radio stations to c whats on, & then start again, and viola! its starts perfectly normal

    @ dani123
    brother your replies also makes sense, i did a bit of search on Throttle Position Sensor, its symptoms are also pretty much what i'm getting. is there any way i can check which sensor is going haywire?

    @hayzin
    jenab sensor to garbar hai, magar kaunsa?

    @All:
    i know a mechanic in my neighborhood who has a OBD device and required software,
    will he be able to diagnose exactly which sensor is giving up?
    i will eventually get the work done from Honda Drive-In, but its just that i want to confirm the exact problem before going to them guys, coz they often tend to suck money for jobs that they've not even done!

    Thank you every1

    broth. i couldnt help you out but one thing i must say that get it checked from Honda dealer dont take roadside assistance....i know they ruin ur pocket but what i have experienced uptill now is that they are best for diagnosing any problem as they know each n every bolt of Honda cars better....fair enough if u dont repair your car through them but atleast for diagnosing, Honda dealers are the best.

    @manaskjn: bro i'll definitely get it checked through obd. thanku
    @Zish: thanku for ur advice sir. i usually get all my work done from Honda, but i've made it a rule to go to them & tell that this is wrong with my car, & this is the reason. that way they do the diagnostics to confirm & fix the problem.
    if i just go to them and tell that this is the prob with my car, they keep the car for 2-3 days, & when they return it, it comes along with a hefty bill, which mentions that they've changed xyz-abc-def-ghi-jkl-mno-pqr parts & now the car will drive like new
    i completely agree with u that honda ppl r best when it comes to diagnostics. even they're the best when it comes to part replacements too, and every thing else associated to it, but u need to keep a very close eye at what they're doing to ur car...

    Dani Throttle position Sensor symptoms are a bit different then what he is getting. I mean we can be sure of one thing that if the problem comes in continuously then it is TP other wise its something else.

    Now i am not trying to conclude something here but i am just saying that he should go to the honda drive in / pit stop and get the honda checked with PGM only the mechanic can tell you the exact problem where it lies.

    I alos had an exact similar problem with my city a check light use to come up and then the engine used to shut down. Restarting the engine would solve the problem. when i got it checked i found out that the ignition wiring coming from the engine area had a burned cable in it inside the male female connection.

    Anyways @gn2903 my suggestion to you is that get your checked from Honda.
