Default Honda Civic 1995 Engine Options

    Salam brothers,

I have Honda Civic 1995. I'm having alot of trouble with the engine. Oil leakage, gaskit problems and loss of power are the issues which i faced and facing. I was thinking to rebuild the engine completely, but then I thought why not get a engine swap. I'm don't want a power house, I need an economical engine. Can you guys please share the prices of engine rebuild. Also the price of same engine? Is it possible to get a good economical engine under 20k ( with giving mine along )?

Your help will be highly appreciated.

    Regards

i would recommend that you get your engine overhauled if you plan to keep this car.

@zia1288: unfortunately, u'll not be able to get a swap in 20k budget..

if u swap with same carby engine that comes factory fitted... it will cost u around 30k+ after giving ur engine.

if u've budget of 50k to 55k then go for d15b vtec

I highly suggest you increase your budget to the 40K range or wait till you can and then swap this engine out for the EFi D15b the normal and common one or the one I would recommend is the D15b 3 Stage Vtec one, You'd get pretty decent power and pretty good mileage figures on both the normal fuel (CNG & Petrol) with the 3 Stage Vtec one.

You can try to salvage the current engine and spend more on rebuilding it but I would strongly advise to not do that, I had the same problems with the same engine in my Old Civic and I kept on pushing the same engine and putting more money into it but it would hardly give me a few days before something new or an old problem showed it's head again and I got so fed up with it that I ended up selling the car pretty much in a state when it wasn't really driveable anymore. The CNG mileage suffered because of that and the petrol mileage was worse than a tank.

So taking from my personal experience with a faulty engine, I'd highly suggest you opt out for a swap and therefore save yourself from the headaches and regret, You can get a decent deal for a new engine in exchange for your own, You should go out to the market on a free day and do a bit of "window shopping" to see what's what,

I have the 3 Stage Vtec D15b in my current car and believe me I would never want to go back to the everyday problems and headaches of the old carburetor D15b3. The newer engines makes your life so much easier or at least it has for me.

I hope this can you help you in making a decision for the car.

Mate, the cost of engine in Bilal gunj is lesser than other markets so just visit the engine market over there and ask for pehlwan. His shop is near the audio market. He is a very nice man and would charge you fairly. D16Y8 cost 25K a few months ago while the scrapped engine went for 5K as per my mechanic so the total cost was 20K apart from mechanic's and electrician's labour.

for engine swap, plz make sure to add another 5k to 6k to be spent within next few days after swap... for things like oil change, spark plugs, rediator replacement (if old one is not good) etc...

I am not sure about the exact prices these days or the difference between here and there but like I said something around 40K should be enough.

About the transmission, So yes you can and you should use your current transmission with a swapped engine, If it's in good nick and makes no weird noises. The D series engines all use the same type of transmissions apart from most of the post 96 models use the hydraulic clutch ones and the earlier ones use the cable clutch system. So if your current tranny is in good nick you should use that, You can save yourself some money and also not waste a good transmission.

D16y8 in 25k i really doubt it.....its only possible if he is selling just the head assembly nothing else.

Default is the d15b 3 stage vtec the one that comes originally with civic 2000 vti?

    Hi guys,

can you tell me if d15b is the engine that comes stock with the vti 2000. Also how is the d16y8? I think i saw in some threads that it is a fast engine, so will it not be suitable for daily use?

I am looking for options for my civic 2000. Can anyone tell me which engine is stock with it and what would be good options for me.

    Thanks a bunch!
