Default Need to service my headlights 2001 civic

Guys, how much would it cost me to have my front headlights serviced and polished ?

When i installed the lights the technician said to service your lights as the element of yellow is there * Something very Greek to me.

It would cost me 2500 according to him, so im wondering if i goto plaza myself in Karachi how much would it actually cost ?

Reason being it will improve my hids by upto 20%

Hey, don't be fooled by what they say. They are charging you too much.
you are better off with any plastic surface cleaner.

Give it a try with Meguiars PlastX or may be 3M headlight restoration kit, they won't cost you more then 8-15 euros, and above all won't damage the surface.

Iv'e tried Meg's PlastX on my civic 2006 and it worked a treat for me. Plus one single bottle would last many applications.

I got my Baleno's headlights washed by opening.
The guy opened the lights + washed them + smoked the frame + buffed the lights and took Rs 1500/-.

I wouldn't suggest doing that unless your headlights seal has already broken. Because you will not be able to seal them back once you open them. This is true with all aftermarket lights when you buy them (e.g projector headlights etc), with each wash or rain, the water will stay inside for weeks and it will all be messed up. If it is sealed, there is no way it has dust build up inside, and you are better off with just polishing the outer surface.

If you want to go an extra mile, you can first use 2000+ grit sand paper followed by machine polish and your lights will be crystal clear.

After that, simply apply any window sealant so that they don't oxidize as by polishing you will remove the protective layer over the lens, and its oxidizing chances will increase.

But all in all, i would suggest if your lights are never opened before from stock, don't open them unless they are broken or damaged.

PS: There is one way to clean them from inside but its a bit lengthy.

I don't think we have Meguiars products available here,

    I Just bought this:

Buy FORMULA1 Auto Scratch Polish online, FORMULA1 Auto Scratch Polish Price, Reviews @ Indiatimes Shopping.

A friend told me its good for headlights. I'm gonna try it on my headlight soon, it looks promising.

Hey candy50: what about if we open up the headlights, do what we have to do and then seal them again with silicon solution? I intend to mod the housing of my headlights for which i need to open them.

and ahem.. do you mind sharing how we can clean without opening the headlight?
