Default "Cluck" sound from Civic (1.8) auto transmissions

    Dear all,

I have noted that in my 2008 Civic Prosmatec, a "Cluck" type of sound comes when you shift into Drive. I have noted that if you shift into Drive with the brake pressed and leave the brake pedal about 2 seconds after shifting into drive, the sound will not come. If you leave the brake as soon as you shift into Drive, the sound will come. I have heard this sound coming from other automatic civic's as well. I would like to know what this sound actually is, and should we wait for 2 seconds before leaving the brake, or is this sound not of any concern?

Note: I always bring my car to a complete stop before shifting into Drive or Reverse.

Civic owners please share your experiences and knowledge to this "issue."

I havn't noticed any such sound and I immediately take foot off the brake when shifting into D . I suggest you take it to Honda workshop and get it checked.

EDIT: There is also a brake/ABS noise especially during mornings. Are you sure its not that sound?

It happens in my car too. Its a loud noise and its been around for almost 2 years. And nothing bad has ever happened.
It used to come in our civic eagle eye aswell. But id like to know the science behind this.

with the brake not pressed down, the transmission causes a bit of a jerk, the proper procedure is to actually keep the brake pressed down before putting in D. I am pretty sure the sound comes from the transmission or motor mount. And its BAD for the car as the sudden jerk is not good for the engine mounts at all.

you cant shift out of park without pressing the brake pedal, its got an electrical interlock switch that prevents the lever moving from park

I know that lol, But I'm referring to shifting from n to d. Theres no lock there at all and its not a bad idea to let the car not jerk forward.

my 98 civic used to make that sound at times
but with almost 200,000 kms mileage and regular transmission oil changes, there was no other problem with the gear and i ignored the sound totally

manual shifting the auto will wear out the gear box in the long run

this is why they invented triptronic etc gears

since ur car doesnt have triptronic, dont try to simulate and screw it i suggest
