    Default Civic 99 Suspension problem

i recently bought a civic 99 Exi. The suspension feels 50/50. but the problem i face is as under:
    1. Car doesnt go THUK THUK on jumps/ khaddas so i think the shocks are still alive.
    2. there is noise on jumps/ khaddas when there is less load on car i.e only 1 or 2 persons.
    3. there is no noise & suspension feels fine when there is more load i.e 3-4 persons sitting.
is this an indication of bad shock absorbers or springs or bad rubber bushes?
what is the cost effect of all three things
    thnx in advance

    Maybe lubricate?
I sprayed WD-40 on mine and it was fine, but still have the bushes checked.

What sort of noise, since its not ''thuk thuk'', do you hear a squeaking noise, or a grinding noise?

I have a 97 vti and i also didnt experience any thuk noise or any noise from the shocks however the suspension felt weak and also did make noise when faced with rough roads. For me personally i wanted the suspension to be perfect so i got all the bushes changed from the front and rear suspension regardless of their condition( some were fine) the total cost was about 8500 for all the bushes and maybe 1500- 2000 for labour. but what a difference, feels great now , no noises no bumps nothing. id suggest you do that cause i mean these cars are more than 10 years old now

    @ Sheryky,

Can you mention where you got the work done from and where you bought the parts?

96-2000 civics sucks on suspension bush work and overheating issues
once the genuine bushes are replaced, they will last 6 months to a year
RBI bushes made in thailand are the best
Life is short and very unpredictable just like a Quarter mile .....

thanx a lot everyone. i will go 4 change of bushes. will go by thailand 1. will let u know the results.
Btw i hav 1 more prob:
whenever i press the accelerator hard, the engine vibrates very much, specially in 2nd gear. but when it is accelerated evenly or gently then all is fine. there is no excessive vibration on idle. the prob which i think may b of bad engine foundations. what do u say....

If the engine vibrates even if the car is static, then its the foundations.

If the car vibrates when you floor the accelerator, then its your axles.

If u come across to change the bushes, i would suggest u not to change those bushes that are genuine and looks fine, just change the worn out bushes. Especially in this case of 6th gen civic.

On the contrary Tayyab, I'm of the opinion that he changes all of them as the weak ones will result in screwing up of the newer ones as well. It's a 12 years old car and I seriously doubt any of the bushings will still be genuine or in good condition even if they look fine.

Yes , i got the bushes from iqbal autos in f-10 markaz , you know the backside where all the mechanics sit and then got the work done from hashim , he is a mechanic there. Too be honest if you want to get the work done i would advise going to saddar pindi and getting the bushes yourself cause otherwise in f-10 they will get it for you but you will end up waiting for half the day just for the parts. But if you do decide to get it done then hashim is a good mechanic and you can even give my reference.

    +1

I had changed one or two bushes but still felt that the ride was not good enough , some mechanics will even tell you that this bush is fine but remember they are saying its fine as in itll last another 2-3 months, if you want everything running smoothly you cant go cheap and have that thinking.

Thats why i decided to change all of them and even i was told that most are fine but i still went with all front and back bushes and it was a big difference, closest thing to feeling like its a new car again because as mentioned above these cars are really old now i mean a decade old and that too on our roads you can just imagine what they go through

Agreed to u bango - only if we got the real original bushings.

As we all are well aware that this gen of civic has the maximum number of bushings than any other civic gen, especially the backside. The new ones available in market is not even close to the 70% life left in original bush, and will last less than a year.
