Thread: Civic 99 Strange Problem

    Default Civic 99 Strange Problem

    I hav a civic EXI 99. It starts on petrol & switch over to CNG auto at 1.5 RPM. Recently its fuel injectors got clogged & i went to an electrician & he cleaned the injectors the DESI way by taking them off and cleaning with a Bottle of CARB Cleaner. He also told me to get my petrol tank cleaned so after that i got the tank cleaned up. There was no rust in the tank but i got it cleaned & put new patrol. after that i just drove off to my house only a couple of Kms away & relaxed. But the next day i felt the same issue but the mechanic told me that injectors are working but slightly clogged again, so he recommended to drive the car on petrol for a few days so that the injectors get cleaned naturally.

    I drove the car for about 4 days on petrol. On 5th day I went to my old mech for some other non engine related prob. It was just cleaning of brakes. But when i tried to start my car after that, it refused to start, the self starter was cranking the engine but there was some CLUNK CLUNK noise from the engine twice or thrice so the diagnostic started.

    When i told that i was driving the car for last few days on patrol he told me that u have just escaped the DEATH of YOUR ENGINE as the CLUNK CLUNK noise was of the VALVES Hitting the PISTON HEAD. Luckily the CAM was in good position & didnt let the VALVES to Break due to the collision.

    After that he advised me following:
    1. The new petrol which i put in was not good (i got it from SHELL)
    2. The bad petrol made a sticky liquid which froze the VALVES & they got stuck.
    3. He told to drain the petrol & get new from PSO or CALTEX & start my car on cng NOW.
    4. THE CAR STARTED ON cng & i DRAINED THE PETROL & got new one from PSO.
    5. Luckily the problem didnt happen again.

    My Engines configuration is as under:
    1. Civic 99 EXI with swapped engine D15B JDM 1.5 Non Vtec.
    2. Its EFI but no ADNANCER & EMULATOR installed. The injector wires are cut & working in DESI way.
    3. The timing from distributor is set for CNG & not for Petrol.
    4. The air blockage is installed in the air cleaner box.
    5. Radiator fan is on AUTO against my mechanic's strong wish. The engine never overheat & fan is working fine on auto.

    After the incident, i have decided following:-
    1. To get my timing set for petrol & not for CNG.
    2. To install TOMASETTO 2in1 ADVANCER+EMULATOR.
    3. To change the temp con which switches ON the radiator fan as i feel that fan turns on late & engine becomes too hot & putting Excessive load on the cooling system.

    Plz comment on above & advise on following as well:
    1. Ur recommendation on type of spark plugs with part no for NGK & DENSO both as i could not find it on internet.
    2. What should be the recommended spark plug gap as Honda recommends 1.0 mm to 1.1mm but my mechanic usually set it on 0.6 mm.
    3. What is the recommended VALVE Clearance for INLET & EXHAUST VALVES. I have heard that both have different clearance but mechanics usually set it the same for both which i think is not right thing to do.

    You can not clean injectors by the stupid method your mechanic used. Only way you can clean injectors is by ultra sonic cleaning that is available in Lahore by a guy name Omer. He also advertised this on pakwheels forum.

    If you cant get them clean change the whole set to a good used ones and change your fuel filter.

    I had same issue and resolved by changing injectors the ones leaking.

    BTW you can install advancer in your car but i will suggest only to use original lendi renzo advancer i know its expensive than the one you mentioned but beleive me its the only one i feel works properly.
    Speed costs money, how fast can you afford to go.

    The highlighted bit is like - you washing your your greasy hands with a spray of water and calling them clean.

    I had a customer once - whom I refused service because of his childish nonsense of this similar problem. I told him that his injectors were done and dead - he said that Tariq Road mechanics clean them and they work.

    Not my taste - not worth my time. I really appreciate a customer who loves DIY and is logical - but for all illogical ones, I have a sign - its called EXIT.

    i know its illogical. thats why i said he cleaned them the desi way. i also dont beleive in this kind of cleaning but my problem is that i m at HYDERABAD for few months & their is no qualified ULTRASONIC lab available here, so i m stuck.
    & by the way i m a big DIY type of guy.

    thnx for ur precious comments but nobody replied my question. IS IT POSSIBLE TO INSTALL AN ADVANCER ON THIS ENGINE?. Although it is an EFI setup, but IT HAS A DISTRIBUTOR with a ROTOR which require mechanical ADVANCE.
    I m thinking to convert it to COP (coil on Plug) setup like in new cars. Is it possible but the question is IS IT POSSIBLE IN PAKISTAN.
    All the trouble i m taking is TO INSTALL AN ADVANCER. So simply tell me how to do it on this motor with a dizzy? thnx

    would u plz describe what is the proper way to clean the injectors and when it is required to clean ?

    Feedback,
    I installed Tomasetto 2in1 Advancer+Emulator Cip5. bought it in 1800.
    But when i went for installation, mechanics denied to install it as they said that no advancer can be installed in this car as it has a distributor.
    But i did not giv up & decided to install it myself. thanx to PAKWHEELS. i did some research on PAKWHEELS & downloaded the manual of wiring on Honda. Found out the correct wires to be cut with help of a Voltmeter & voila.
    I was surprised when i started the car. It had no lags while driving. not even with AC. As previously it used to stall in 2nd gear & in 1st gear. Impressive pick even with AC. i had to double check if the AC is running or not.
    Great performance.

    It has a distributor but no mechanical advance in it, all advance is controlled by the ECU - by adding the advancer to the system - you have intercepted the crank angle sensor signal and made the ECU advance it further - which is the correct way to do it.

    The advancer i have installed has intercepted the MAP & TPS sensor not the CRANK sensor

    I am having a problem with my 97 civic that when i start my car in morning it starts good with rpm of 1100 and while driving at reaching optimum temperature car rpm comes to 200 or 100 and sometimes shutoff only on Cng not on petrol.
    Money differs from an automobile or mistress in being equally important to those who have it and those who do not.

    When ever i cold start i run my engine few minutes on petrol and when ever i shut it down for a long period i do it on petrol.

    I had shell petrol and then i got my car driving on petrol as jerky. This is not the case on gas. Now What should I do? After that I have got more petrol from pso and then from attock oil. But still car is jerky on petrol and not on cng. What could be the reason? Should I also try draining all my car's petrol and get new petrol in?
