    Default Honda Civic 1995 Engine Swap/Re-build

    Iam driving 95 Civic for sometime, and seems like engine needs some serious attention. Its eating oil like 5-6 liter in 3000km run. Anyway i have decided to work on it, so what do you suggest Engine rebuild or Swap?
    Keeping in view than very soon cars will be running on petrol mostly since CNG load management.... advice please!!!

    depending on the mechanical condition of the block - you may just be needing a head rebuild, Are the spark plugs crusty white when removed?

    check compression and oil pressure and any odd noises - most engine rebuilds in Pakistan are not needed and mechanics/machinists make a fortune by overhauling it without need.

    @ poster, bro swap and rebuild is depend on your daily use, rebuilt will cost about 40-50 a good one, vtec now days will cost 65-70 easily, i have done the swap, so its all depend on you, swap is better instead of rebuilt.

    true, normally mechanics in PK make the victim end up in over-hauling whole engine even if that is not required, they make you do it either by giving false illusion of malfunctions or by saying that as the head is open now why don't you change other xyz parts aswell... it will make your engine zero-meter
    (self experienced )

    @poster: if your mechanic has finally suggested for complete over-hual then swap is a better option than overhual... as company built is better than hand built by chota :p

    Swap is better. Go for d15b vtec or dual vtec for power with economy.

    thats why you analyse whats wrong with correct tools, and not touch or feel, like you check compression with a compression tester, you check hot and cold oil pressure, and then proceed to work - rather than taking it apart and slapping it back together while praying that your work is good.

    Correct analysis of a fault in anything is the basis of correct repair/service. Otherwise its a guess game which can get very expensive.

    Im originally from Karachi, You can buy a compression tester in Karachi at good tool shops - but would have to build an oil pressure gauge yourself, I built mine, and I put one up for sale on PW too, no-one was interested in it though.

    Bro reborn is 140 hps where as D15b is 130 hp though displacement is another factor. First decide how much power you are looking for....u can turbo charge a d15b else H22 are really in plenty these days u can easily put 200+ hps on road. But if u want to swap an engine i'll recommend D, H, B not R18.

    @Poster
    Consult your mechanic if he says complete overhaul then i'll recommend to go for a swap. A d15b will b a bolt on swap...even u can use ur current gearbox with it.

    find a good mechanic - the ones you consulted are not qualified to be mechanics. Any engine of any manufacturer is rebuildable. Its not alien technology.

    yes they are rebuildable too. I used to rebuild them in Pakistan. its the same formula - replace worn out or damaged parts and assemble as required by the manufacturer.
