    Thumbs up (FINALLY SOLVED) Civic 99 Drinking Petrol like Sharbat

    Salam PWs
    My civic is drinking petrol like hell. does only 300 kms per tank on highway & even less in city. The petrol needle can be felt going down while driving. there is no leakage & car moves great on petrol. no problem in driving.
    On CNG it does 200kms per 55cylinder. can u tell me how to increase petrol average. i have the advancer installed and it works. no problem on driving on CNG or PETROL. plz help

    get ur throttle body serviced besides that get ur fuel filter changed! spark plugs make sure they arent worn out! ur air filter should be clean! and if ur car is auto change ur auto tranny oil (this makes a big difference)
    if ur plug wires are worn out even change those and ul see a major difference in mileage once u do all the above!

    Thnx for all the comments. Here is what i have already done:
    1. New plugs
    2. Checked plug wires.( there resistance is ok)
    3. New air filter
    4. Clean throttle body
    & btw it doesnt have a Catalytic Converter nor an oxygen sensor

    Recently i drove it in city on petrol. after only 45 kms quarter of my tank was gone. guessing from it, it will only go about 170 kms in the city on full tank. What the hell.
    Btw its silencer gets sooted when on petrol so i assume its running too rich.

    The engine is a D15B JDM which was changed by previous owner. i have checked the compression etc of the engine & its ok. it doesnt even eats up oil or water.

    The only issue i could not resolve was the ECU. It currently has a P2C ECU. which i m sure was changed alongwith the engine.
    Can any EXI owner tell me which ECU comes in factory fitted in 99 EXI.
    I think the ECU is not compatible with the engine & causing it to run way toooooo rich.
    comments plz.

    look at your engine cylinder head for the part no. stamping - that part code is the ECU you want, next to check is that if someone has messed up the trim pot wiring, its near the pedals hidden behind the carpet.

    The part no on the head is P2A & ECU says P2C. Thats the mismatch i suppose. i have been searching for P2C ECU on the net but coudnt find even a single entry about it.
    @Xulfiqar
    kindly explain the trim pot wiring. i want to check it.

    I beleive the P2C is the small case non-vtec ECU, its of no worth as the car is never meant to be "modded" hence there is nothing on the web about it.

    The trim pot is like a mixture screw setting for your ECU - it replaces the required oxygen sensor in the exhaust as we have no laws for any sort of emmissions. Its located behind the carpet near the accelerator pedal, do not just go spinning away on it, as you may lean/richen it out excessively, its ideally set on a EGA machine - exhaust gas analyser machine.

    @Xulfiqar
    Thanx bro. ya its small case ECU with only 2 plugs. can u tell me if its OBD0, OBD1 or OBD2a or b. & abt the trim pot, I have seen that round thing under the side kick panel on driver's side. its of plastic with a cross type plastic screw in it which can be turned by a screw driver.
    I already asked abt it from few people but nobody knew what it is.
    Can u please explain it setting as it leans or richen clockwise or anti clockwise. As i m in hyderabad & there is no one with an EGA machine here.

    yes its there in nearly every pakistani assembled civic and corolla too that has no oxygen sensor, DO NOT turn that screw unless you have solid knowledge and have a real good long experience under your belt, Its properly set by sticking an EGA probe into the exhaust. If you turn it without any measuring, you may destroy your engine by going lean or rich.

    An engine that suddenly starts drinking fuel is not a trim pot problem, its something else, like leaky injectors, bad timing, fuel leaks, compression etc. Sort those out first, get everything in proper working order - if you cannot do it yourself get/find someone to do it (come to Karachi for this very same purpose) as you may end up with a severe headache and a problematic car if you do it without any precautions.

    The ECU you have is OBD-1 btw.

    before anything - check and verify that the check light is actually wired to the ECU and not something else, if its on check for fault codes.

    Most high fuel consumption issues are due to a faulty coolant temp sensor or missing thermostat valve, by running cold all the time your ECU will overfuel the engine as its setup just like that. Once the engine reaches any temperature between 80 and 95 degrees centigrade it will get to correct economical fuelling.
