Angry Civic 96 EXI: Heating and Gas in Radiator

    Dear Friend,

I am facing this problem since last 4/5 months; initially my car started getting overheat once a while so I started to monitor the water level of radiator. I used to fill it up daily with 200-300 ml of water and this quantity started increasing day by day. My average mileage is 55-60 KM per day. Then my radiator started making gas, even when I use to open the tap in the morning.

I have replaced the radiator with brand new one almost a month ago and got replaced the Head Gaskit as well two days back but my radiator is still making gas in it (in the morning when I open the radiator to check the water level).

The radiator is not fetching the water from the reservoir too. Although the car is not disturbing me locally but I am afraid of the long route (out station) journeys.

    Please guide me...... Thanks

    do this check first

before opening the pressure cap squeeze a radiator pipe, it should be soft with no pressure. Now open the radiator cap - the whooshing sound is actually air being filled into the vacuum in the radiator meaning that you have a bad radiator cap - you have also mentioned that it does not siphon water from the expansion tank too - which also is a sign of bad radiator cap.

if the pipe is hard you have engine problems.

And never use plain tap water to cool your engine.

    Dear Xulfiqar,

Thanks for the reply. I was observing as per your guidelines but surprisingly there is no gas in the radiator in the morning, pipes are soft and about 50/60 ml of radiator water is getting evaporated on daily basis. I think I have to plan a long drive to check the exact status..

    thanks once again....

yaar agar paani daloo gaay woh toh evaporate hoga hee hoga because boiling temp of water is 100c! coolant ka zada hota hai! put proper coolant in ur radiator and check!

the pipes would be hard after a run - the coolant expands and pressurizes itself to 14 psi which the cap holds, The morning check is for vaccum creation in the system without any siphon action (bad vrv in the radiator cap)

its not about coolant or water, it is about the radiator cap, if the cap is faulty, it wont exert pressure on the coolant hence it will reach its boiling temperature quickly, whether it is water or coolant. Replacing the cap with a good one will keep the pressure intact on the coolant/water hence increasing the boiling temperature limit of the liquid.
