Default Honda Civic 2006 - 2009 "Cracked Block Problem"

I don't own a 2006 onwards Honda civic but i was just going through some websites and found this horrifying forum with a discussion regarding 2006 onwards Honda civic 1.8 vtec's unstable engine block problem.

Apparently once these motors cross a mileage of 70 - 80k, the blocks on these engine crack open followed by coolant leakage and over heating.

Honda USA is taking care of the affected vehicles free of cost and has extended the warranty of these models to eight years. The owners in the US are being compensated so that the issue is not publicized, otherwise they might have to recall 100 & 1000s of vehicles.

I am just wondering how would the Pakistani population be treated if this issue surfaced in our locally assembled Civics.

it could happen with any engine blocks. but never heard of such issue in our local 8gens. i think the blocks which we get here in pakistan are of better quality than the blocks available in US . . or maybe its because of too much modification in the engine area, like installation of headers blah blah blah. . .

So what did you do ?

I think Pakistani users should also contact Honda Atlas & Honda International. They are replacing it for free all over the world.

Do we have any 07-09 reborn owners who faced this issue here in local civic till now? Can anyone confirm that we didn't get these effected batches of bad cylinder blocks in Pakistan?
