    Default Civic 97 engine cost

Can someone please tell me how much does a kabuli engine for 97 Civic VTi (d16 I think) cost, and how much does an overhaul cost?

Nowadays engines have gone expensive, there are many options for you though, the engine in your car is D16Y6, you can either swap it with another D16Y6 or almost any D15B which are easily available in the market. The price of a complete engine ranges from 50-70 thousand (good ones). But you can get them for less (around 40 thousand) if your transmission and some other components are alright and you dont buy them from the engine wala.

Overhaul should be around 25-30 thousand for the least, if going for overhaul, i would suggest paying a visit to the nearest Honda Pit Stop if you dont have a reliable mechanic.

please state the problem of your car first

engine code is d16y8 b.t.w (which you wont find in second hand)
they offer alternate D15b or D16Y6 in second hand

It sounds weird, somewhat like an old diesel, I went to a couple of mechanics and they say that the noise is coming from the main bearings or the connecting rod bearings. there is no compression loss though, apparently, and the car drives fine.

For some people, they will seem a bit pricey, but when you are playing with a 6 hundred thousand machine, u need to be cautious !

I would seriously recommend you go to a pit stop before spending any money.

@has4u: PKDM 6th gen Civic VTi engine code is D16Y6, also known as D16Y8. second hand ka kya matlab ?

    second hand means kabli
and the engine code engraved on the assembly is D16Y8. show me a local vti with factory fitted d16y6?

    @nhussaini
i would recommend assembly change with D16Y6(kabli)
rebuilding the engine is a waste of time money and effort. been there done that

honda machines run at high induction as compared to others, that is the reason they arent ideal for overhauling.

By "assembly" you mean engine, transmission, manifolds, the lot right?
Whats wrong with changing only the engine? Do the replacement engines mate properly with the original (PKDM) transmission?

yaar go to mithu khan and ask for d16y6 assembly swap
    wirring connects clip to clip
(only engine block will be changed/swapped) even your AC compressor/power steering/gear/ etc will remaing the same
DO Not change anything else if your wiring and sensors are fine! keep them away from the original ECU and tappet cover even!

D15B 3 stage VTEC also fits in bolt to bolt and wirring clip to clip but i am against it, as the original ECU is not meant for the the 3 stage vtec
