Wink My 2010 Civic's VTEC Kick :p (not my best run)

It is my 8th Gen Civic FD R18, That wasn't my car's best run, i have done 0 - 100 kph in 7.25 secs best. Mods: megan racing headers, simota air intake 2.5'' , 2.5'' free flow down pipe, HKS carbon Ti Exhaust

Note: Vtec kicked in at 4500 rpms in above video, shifting while making video wasn't easy that's why (poor shifting)

Excellent information. All I have understood is:

Vtec is designed to save fuel in low RPMs. But when we increase the RPMs the vtec disengages itself and we are welcomed by a sudden uplift (I mean a sudden increase in speed and power).

    JazakAllah for the information,
    regards,

@poster u took around 10secs to hit 100,not bad but not too good.
regarding 7.25 secs, its what which is hard for an acura rsx base model to hit at stock.
    nice attempt though.
@sial d16w9 is the motor which does not give any sort of v.tec feel, when v.tec kicks inn the machine just sound louder, nuffing else in short all show no go at that particular stage

Bro 9th sec to 17.5th sec isn't 10 seconds and i have already mentioned (twice) that this wasn't my best run at all. because steering, shifting while making a video, holding a camera wasn't easy for me* and it wasn't even a proper launch :p and i wasn't power shifting either. that was just a random VTEC video bro... and for your ACURA RSX thing below are some stats

    2002 Acura RSX Type-S 0-60 mph: 6.0 seconds
    2002 Acura RSX 5 speed 0-60 mph: 6.9 seconds
    2003 Acura RSX Type-S 0-60 mph: 6.7 seconds
    2005 Acura RSX Type-S 0-60 mph: 6.7 seconds
    2005 Acura RSX A-Spec 6 Speed 0-60 mph: 6.7 seconds

    no offense

the first two acura rsx 0-60mph stat is wrong!!....i mean look at the 2003 type S which cant be slower than the 2002 model by.7 even though both r same power K20a2 which is 200hp....now the acura rsx base model which is K20a3 cannnot do below 7 sec n yes one of my friends had K20a3 (160hp) in his civic 2002 model n he cudnt beated first stage D16y8 civic 99 by more thn a car gap
now back to the topic...i believe u can do below 8 sec by adding these branded intake, header n exhaust with proper tuned by hondata k-reflash...stock reborn non oriel does 8.5sec
My lugnuts require more torque than your Vtec can put out...

lol man i was talking about the base model, dont tell me about s and a's.
the base model acura with k20a3 does 0-100 in more time as compared to others.
well regarding your timing, man look the video again,u hit the gas at 9sec you are at exactly 88km/h at 17sec how come u grabed 100 at 17.5 in same vid?
look at it again, you have crossed 100 at ''19'' seconds.

That's your car gaining traction at 4500rpm, it's not the VTEC engaging

Cylestyne is absolutely right with his comment !

oh and in this video the car does 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds rather than 7.25.

well i donno how he does 7.25sec but these bolt-on such as intake/header n exhaust wont give u more than 15hp without tuning.....i ve run with few reborn manual with intake/exhaust with my markx 250G from dead stop n they stand no chance....i do 7.5/7.6sec on my markx....i ve stock reborn oriel manual too which is slightly slower than non-oriel manual reborn due to weight difference of oriel n non oriel...maybe i ve to get branded header for my civic so tht i ll do less than 8 sec

While you are right that there is no ''VTEC Kick'' on engaging ; there actually is no kick on disengaging as well.
Because , as you know, VTEC in R18 is not solely dependent on engine RPMs and does not work with continuous variation of intake and exhaust valve overlap (No VTC), it engages valve timing and lift control only but does not use throttle butterfly. Instead the 'economy' lobe on the intake valve allows the intake valve to remain open through the 'up-stroke' portion of the cycle to expel the excessive air-fuel mixture back.
So it is only on highway cruising or very slow city driving or downhill driving , that i-VTEC ever engages. And when it does , it does not produce a sound/kick; when it comes out of it , doesn't make a sound either.

1-this is not a sports car please remember that

2-i hope you dont do this too often and risk ruining the life of the engine.

3-specially making a video while driving.
