Exclamation Honda Civic 2005 Exi PT - Petrol Consumption Issue

    Hi;

I have recently bought a Honda Civic Exi Prosmatec model 2005. Only 44000 kms done in original condition and sealed engine. The car has been running on petrol and never been on CNG.

The car was giving an average of 6-7 kms/litre.

The following has just been replaced with no improvement:
    1. Engine Oil (Shell)
    2. Oil Filter (Guard)
    3. Spark Plugs (NGK)
    4. Throttle body/Carbeurator cleaned with Nasa carbeurator cleaner
    5. Air Filter was clean, thus not changed.

In spite of all these changes, the noted mileage was 6.9 kms/liter (checked on 10 liter filling).

Appreciate all your help and support.

    Thanks much and best regards.

    Abdul Aziz

Thanks Faisal. I'll take it up for computerized tuning and see the difference.

Xulfiqar, my drive is mostly on Sh-e-Faisal and Clifton. Thus, not much crowded as MA Jinnah road or I.I.Chundrigar road.

The process of calculating mileage is that I fill up the tank with 10l of petrol upon lighting-up of the 'yellow' light indicator showing less fuel till the next time it lits up again and see the total mileage covered. It covered exactly 69.5 kms in 10 liters of petrol with AC.

Fyi, the car has 195/65/15 Michelin tyres. Thus, do not see major effect due to these.

I don't smell any petrol but wonder if there is any minor leakage or possiblity of fuel evaporation???

Thanks for your help and looking for more.

May Almighty Allah help to immediately fix up this petty issue - aameen.

Aok. I got the car tuned up on computer. The technician/mechanic adjusted the CO emission (which was high), reduced the petrol utilzation (adjusted somewhere within the glove compartment), adjusted the spark plugs guage from 100 to 90, checked fuel lines and joints for leakage (and found none).

He was also of the opinion that the engine is extremely perfect and that the car is not drinking petrol... but then where is it going??? is still a question mark.

He suggested to change the filling station and evaluate performance with the slight adjustments done.

    Hoping for the best.

In the meantime, any other suggestions are more than welcome.

    Regards.

@OP. Bro, the very first thing u should check is the repute of the filling station. Cz, 90% of pump waalas have their gauges tempered and they show two or three liters more than the fuel thats actually filled.

Find a trustworthy refill station and check for the authenticity by buying the fuel in a container of known capacity.

When thats assured to be OK, then go for the following:

    -engine flush
    -fuel injector cleaner
-fuel filter change (its life will be over if its not been changed cz ur car is like 44k kms driven)
-change engine oil to Havoline formula.

I hope these things will help the mileage to increase to 14/15KPL on highway with AC.

switch to caltex petrol, use fully synthetic engine oil like ZIC A+ 5W - 20 ..... check tires .. pressure should be 28 / 30 PSI .... use light foot on gas get the car washed from underneath and see if you find mud ???

Bros the car has been recently purchased - a month now.
Changed the engine oil with Shell helix (the yellow one).
Tyre pressure is 30psi front and 29psi rear - as mentioned in the manual
    Tyre specs are 195/65/15
Have been changing fuel pumps and the best average recorded so far is 8 km/l. Driving is mostly during traffic hours. While the car is not in idle position, but not even in the top gear most of the times. (its EXI Prosmatec).
Am not too rough on the gas pedal though.

your calculation technique is wrong, the average fuel consumption is checked by filling a full tank, driving it then topping it.

You did everything but forgot valve clearances (tappets) it makes a big difference.

    what? shell yellow wala? OHMFG!

Drain that oil immediately followed by a thorugh engine flush. Then top up with a fully synthetic oil. Like mobil1 or havoline formula.

I know its a bit expensive but if u want fuel economy with shell helix, I am sorry, u already saved the money on engine oil and played foolhardy with it!!!
