I have the exact same issue in my exi 05 prosmatec but when downshifting to 3rd or 2nd gear. ATF changed but no effect. A mechanic told me that the transmission filter needs to be cleaned.

Since the transmission filter is somewhere very deep inside the transmission, whole transmission needs to be opened apart which I do not want. The above mechanic checked the transmission solenoids and they were fine.He then said that he will clean the transmission filter by opening the fluid pipes that go from and to the radiator by pumping air from each side consecutively and thus practically flushing the ATF out. This will result in the cleaning of the filter and then if the ATF is very dirty, it can be changed or if its condition is ok then put back after some filtration.

I am very skeptical of above methodology hence havent got it done yet. Need opinions specially from Xulfiqar. I also showed it to a Honda 2s and he was like its normal in prosmatec. I havent driven any other prosmatec so cant comment but my SE Saloons shifting is a charm and much better than Prosmatec .

change the transmission oil and transmission oil filter. A 3s shop will not take more then an hour.

what is odometer reading and when was last ATF changed?

i have a similar problem in my merc w202 c180. instead of 3rd its the second gear that shifts with a jerk only. and i think all the gears change late. it also has some play in accelerator wire. i guess that must be a problem.
every day i wake up and die a little.

I would love to see a shop that can take down a Honda autobox from the car into bits and back in one hour. The problem with the Honda autoboxes is that there is no sump, to remove said filter the whole damned thing needs to be taken apart. Charas smoking design engineer I guess.

btw, OP if this is a prosmatec car, remove and clean the shift solenoids on the right face of the transmission, they can be accessed from the front wheelhouse by removing the plastic splash guard. It seems that you have already have then cleaned out, and you have dirty fluid which confirms a dirty filter, no amount of air pumping will get any fluid out or clean the filter. That trans needs to be taken out to bits - there is no other way, curse Honda here with colorful panjabi gaaliyan, and do not compare a toyota transmission shift charecteristic to a Honda, toyota transmissions are always more refined.

for the mercedes guy, If you have a 1.8 W202 car, you would be having a 4 speed hydraulic automatic, Its shift aggression is set by the shift modulator, its connected to the intake manifold and changes transmission shift shock according to manifold vacuum, meaning at full throttle there is no vacuum and the transmission will shift HARD because at full throttle the driver wants all the pep he can get from the car, and driving at 1/4 pedal means that you are tootling along so the transmission will glide into the next gear.

BUT, it controls shift shock for all gears, not just 1-2 shift. hard 1-2 shift is also caused by a dirty filter, incorrect fluid or fluid too cool.

    If you are facing this

    1-2 = hard (elephant kick)
    2-3 = lazy (drunken shift)
    3-4 = pert (normal)

in a trans that is normal operating temperature (check level from dipstick), with correct fluid and new filter. You need to overhaul the unit, the B2 piston and clutch 2 is ready to go out.

the transmission filter is only cleaned by taking the transmission to bits, there is no other way. When it is in bits I would suggest you inspect the wear parts (bands and clutches), the steels would be OK - they dont wear out easily.

Replace any questionable wear parts and O rings, specially the front pump large O ring and torque convertor seal.

Repack the transmission with correct casing sealant, DO NOT USE the colorful RTV silicone that you buy in Rs 50/- tubes.

it wont do anything at all, one pipe is connected to the pump output, the other is an open port that dribbles the cool fluid back to the fluid intake pool. Air pressure would do nothing.

Furthermore air pressure cannot remove the fluid stuck in the half filled torque convertor or the clutches either. You can try to use the transmissions own pump to expel the fluid as you add new, but it would take a lot of fluid and still your filter wont be clean. because the only way to clean that filter is to scrape it or renew it.

No - you FIX the issue, if you keep on driving it like this on dirty fluid and jerky behaviour you are only adding to the future repair bill. btw just for kicks and giggles, where the TPS adjusted to right now?

I did change the ATF on 55k on ODO. Currently its 60K only. Since it can only be half drained (without un-mounting the transmission i.e.) it took 3 litres of genuine Honda ATF.

As for TPS? you mean the RPM setting? Its at 800. sometimes on CNG it gets low but usually stick to 800.
