btw, OP if this is a prosmatec car, remove and clean the shift solenoids on the right face of the transmission, they can be accessed from the front wheelhouse by removing the plastic splash guard. It seems that you have already have then cleaned out, and you have dirty fluid which confirms a dirty filter, no amount of air pumping will get any fluid out or clean the filter. That trans needs to be taken out to bits - there is no other way, curse Honda here with colorful panjabi gaaliyan, and do not compare a toyota transmission shift charecteristic to a Honda, toyota transmissions are always more refined.

for the mercedes guy, If you have a 1.8 W202 car, you would be having a 4 speed hydraulic automatic, Its shift aggression is set by the shift modulator, its connected to the intake manifold and changes transmission shift shock according to manifold vacuum, meaning at full throttle there is no vacuum and the transmission will shift HARD because at full throttle the driver wants all the pep he can get from the car, and driving at 1/4 pedal means that you are tootling along so the transmission will glide into the next gear.

BUT, it controls shift shock for all gears, not just 1-2 shift. hard 1-2 shift is also caused by a dirty filter, incorrect fluid or fluid too cool.

    If you are facing this

    1-2 = hard (elephant kick)
    2-3 = lazy (drunken shift)
    3-4 = pert (normal)

in a trans that is normal operating temperature (check level from dipstick), with correct fluid and new filter. You need to overhaul the unit, the B2 piston and clutch 2 is ready to go out.
thanks zulfikar. i will start with checking and filling oil and replacing oil filter. if it doesnot rectify then i will go for overhaul. and is there any way to adjust/change shift modulator settings???
i am exactly facing wat u have described.
every day i wake up and die a little.

the modulator is adjustable, it has got a cap on it which needs to be removed, BE VERY CAREFUL because mercedes use plastic caps on modern modulators, the old ones were rubber.

inside is a T handle that you can raise and twist, it changes shift charecteristic. The correct way is to mount a pressure gauge into a port right below the modulator, it takes a banjo fitting. Then the modulator is adjusted while looking at the pressure gauge. You will not have that equipment or data, so best is to adjust and drive.

Hanif Uncle (0333-3029767), he is the best mechanic in Karachi with 44 years of experience. I have posted about him before too but i guess Karachi pak wheelers don't read it. He does genuine fitting in all cars at very reasonable rates which other mechanics cant even perform while paying them more.

He can arrange all genuine and japanese parts also at wholesale rates. Call him and explain your problem to him. He will 100% solve it with your satisfaction guaranteed. Currently he has just overhauled my car's engine using majority of all genuine parts and testing it.

No mechanic can perform the work the way he does. Believe me, the rest is your choice getting looted by Honda showroom. You can get genuine parts from showroom at high prices but you cant get master craftsmanship there.

    Regards,
    Umar.

^^GTFO, we are looking for educated problem solving, not shotgunning the car to a recommended mechanic, let go of "shaksiyat parasti" please and start to believe in "systems"

@Xulfiqar: I am facing similer problem in my Honda City ExiS model 2001. It usually shifts hard normally. I had the advancer removed and it solved 80% of the problem but still 20% jerks are there. What should i do to fix it? Thanks

first check the engine mount condition and then also check if the CNG fitter has disturbed the throttle valve pressure cable to the transmission, loosen it about 2 turns and test drive the car again.

btw what are the normal shift points? they must be wrong right now.

we are talking about automatic transmissions here, manual boxes are simple, and jerky behaviour is usually worn mounts or chattering clutch friction plate.

if you mean at what RPM car shifts, then yes they are wrong sometimes it shifts under 3k rpm sometimes it even double shifts e.g. if i punch the throttle padle to let the car shift at 5k rpm it usually shift in wrong gear. for example if car going on 2nd gear on 5k rpm then it shifts directly to 4th gear not the 3rd.

instead of kick down it shifts HIGH at KICK likely possibility is what Guru have said the Throttle cable is messed and there is a likely possibility of throttle sensor malfunction towards ECU

The old Honda city EXis has a full hydraulic transmission, the TPS or MAP have no say in the shift or behaviour, It is solely determined by the speed governor in the transmission and the position of the pressure cable,

The pressure cable is the cable that goes to the transmission either from the pedal or the "butterfly".
