Thread: Civic Ignition Coil Resistance Test

    Default Civic Ignition Coil Resistance Test

    My civic 99 started slight jerks in 2nd gear when accelerated slowly but jerks were very mild. So I decided to check the spark plugs, wires & ignition coil.
    The spark plugs were ok.
    Wires resistance was within specs as per the service manual.
    But the ignition coil resistance check failed.
    Here is how I opened the distributor & checked the reaistance

    The 3 terminals 4 resistance check

    The primary winding resistance was 0.7 ohm which 1.5ohms more than the specs
    The secondary winding resistance was 10.5 k ohm which is too low as per the specs on service manual. It's a Hitachi coil. Here is the copy of service manual

    Sorry I forgot 2 ask the main question. Can anyone tell me the price of this coil. It's hitachi brand.

    i also checked the resistance on 4 coils of my baleno..

    the resistance readings were

    30
    35
    40
    45


    the 30 reading was on the shortest coil while 45 was on the longest coil..

    is it OK..

    ^^ honda says it should be less than 25k ohm. dont know about Baleno.

    & btw doesn't Baleno hav a waste spark ignition system with coil over plug?

    dont know however i set the mutimeter on ohm setup and then on the 2nd lowest range.. i think K ohm

    K ohm is fine. But I think ur resistance readings r 2 high. U should change em

    I today tested again my plug wires (set of 4 ) on baleno with a proper multimeter set to 20K ohms and the readings are

    1=4.40K (nearest to distributor)
    2=6.44K
    3=7.40K
    4=8.44 K( farthest from distributor)

    Is this normal, meaning the resistance seems OK to me but shouldnt the values be more similar.. I had sumitomo plug wires in the car.. are there even more low resistance wires available in market???

    actually i was getting grayish type of lines repeatedly ( on spark plugs 1 and 2), ( One electrician said that its due to arcing of spark plugs), even after changing the spark plugs to new one in the spark plugs nearest to the distributor.. and an arcing type of sound after oil change to 10w40 after using 20w50 in summers ,there is no missing of engine.. However after start up the car converts to CNG with difficulty..

    My car uses the same dizzi, i replaced the whole thing as one of the seal was leaking oil and coil was also out of spec. Got a nice Kabli one for 3500 rupees in exchange of old Dizzi.

    I think u got it expensive. It was available for rs 1600 without exchange.

    i ve heard that old models civic ignition wires were too good..

    can you please tell which company made ignitions wires for civic till 2000..
