If you spilled some coke or chai or water on the gearshift lever then remove and clean it out. Also check that the key is not worn down and you dont have the keys of the whole world hanging on the keychain. It can wear out the lock and brass key shavings end up in the tumbler jamming the tumbler and the plunger that locks it.

If you have ever used WD40 in the ignition key, you need to remove and clean it.

The problem can be in the NSS or the tumbler barrel.

@all ..yar i dont think the prob. is with gear lever stucking or ignition switch stucking..because the car is working perfect.
and gears shift are normal as before..and when i remove the battery terminals the keys can be completely switched off...and it came out.
so problem with some electronic i guess..????

The gear shift lever has an electronic switch that does a few jobs

light up the little lights in the dashboard
ensure the car only starts in P or N
light up the reverse lights when in R
lock the key in the ignition when the lever is in anything below P
relay information to the ECU of the gear position.

    Chief,
Key stuck is known problem with Honda. I had similar. You have to get it done by locksmith - a good locksmith. You have to ask locksmith if he has done the same for Honda before.

If you manage to turn the key chances are that you will have same problem coming back after couple of days.

Dont get stuck. get it done... ASAP..

for starters - does the P indicator illuminate when the shift lever goes to Park?

You can also bypass this fault by removing the wiring to the plunger that locks the key.

p.s. btw I was stuck in an odd thought at first, your NSS, range switch (choose name) - is not under the console but at the trans, I was thinking of the older slider style till I racked my head.
