    Default ticking sound in honda civic

    Salam PWs,

    The car to which attentions been taken to is a honda civic 1997 vti having roughly 180,000 KMs on it and for some time its giving this sound from the engine that is a ticking sound which comes on when its cold and goes out with engine idling towards its optimum temperature,that sound disappears but the engine sitll is not that smooth,its check engine light is also ON,plz tell me if it can be because of that,i dont know if its, as i found out, a connenting rod sound or the timimng belt is loose and needs adjustment! PLZ!!! experts,Guide me in what might be the possible problem!

    sounds like tappets

    thanks for the reply bro but the tappets have already been taken car off,i think the problem is in some what much lower part of the engine!!

    I am definitely not an expert but can u share the oil grading you are using!
    I presume its 20W50!

    It is probably coming from the timing belt. It usually produce such sound when the timing belt gets old and dry. It normally produces chic chic sound rather tick tick. If you agree with me then remove the tappet cover and there you can see some part of timing belt in the corner, just spray some silicone spray to it and it will gone away....

    check the exhaust pipe near its joint under the engine ..... it rattles also in cold engines and goes away once hot due to vibrations no more ..... any vibrations under the drivers seat u feel? actually got the same problem on 2000 civic some months ago , adjusted tappets and everything but no cure then it was found out exhaust pipe was rattling due to loose connection
