It does require force. Make sure you are using force on the correct side of the cover.

Thanks brother. yes it required a lot of force but was scared i might mess up something. Had to pick papers today from Honda show room and asked them. He applied a lot of force. Also verified that the manual is incorrect about the engine specs. This means in the least we should keep the ratio of hi-oct to regular at 2:3. This is the minimum. The more the hi-oct the better. Their service manager told me this was one of the reason why catalytic converter needs a replacement sooner, i.e. due to lack of hi-oct fuels. lots of carbon accumulates on the catalytic converter. Anyway, thanks all...

Hey guys, I had not used or even started my car for 12 days, had to jump start and the I noticed my headlights were getting dim as I turned the steering. Kept the car started and drove for 30 minutes. Switched off, started again and it didn't start. Electrician came, jump started again and same problem of dimming headlights. I was worried what it is and still am worried if it's coz of an old battery.

The car itself is about 2 years and 4 months old (October 2012 delivery). I hope he was right and it's just a battery replacement, which will be done tomorrow. But the question is would it really dim the lights when engine is running? Any thoughts? I hope it's not due to alternator/generator.

Same condition happened with my brother's civic. And yes the lights get dim even if the engine is running ,
the car would also be jerking due to weak battery

weak/dead battery. No need to take any tension. Just replace the battery and all should be good

Battery changed, but I guess I did not observe this before: still when RPM is in idle range below 1000 the lights do get a bit dim (not as much as before). Explored a few car forums and discovered that in idle RPM an electronic power steering does put a slight load. Absolutely normal lights on turning the steering when RPM is above 1000

Was out and about today and listening to FM 89 and Civic ads kept coming every few minutes till I changed channel on the sluggish nav unit. Since when has Honda invested in marketing campaigns apart from new model launch time?

You should have gone for Maintenance free battery. Liquid battery is pain in 9gen. normally OEM batteries last for good 3 years but in 9gen its dying more quickly as people are unable to check and maintain the liquid levels properly.

The battery is covered with a plastic case which is exposed on one side to check levels. My battery was absolutely fine for 28 months and would have lasted for more if i had not parked it without even starting the car for more than 3 weeks (that must have killed it).

maintainance free is hassle free - secondly it is very difficult to check the liquid level of the last 2 - 3 cells as they are covered with some sort of a chip. . i was out of country for more then a month and on my return my car started without any problem and alhamdulliah battery is still going good. . . . anyways i am lazy so, my personal preference is maintenance free :p
