Default Honda Civic 98-00 1.8 Engine

    AOA guys,

I wanted to know if there is any 1.8 engine that fits bolt-on(no alteration) in civic 98-00. If anyone could make a list would really appreciate that. Also how much of a difference would there be between a 1.8 98-00 civic vs some good or powerful 1.6 98-00 civic?

I saw some pics on google of 98-00 civics with 1.8 engine. But I am not sure if they are with or without alteration? And again would spending on a 1.8 engine be worthwhile or will the increase in performance won't be that great?

Also in the pics I only see DOHC engines. How is there performance compared to the new civic 8th and 9th gen's 1.8 engines?

I'll explore google in the mean time

what you're looking at dear are B16 engines. for Civic SI and Type-R

For improving power, just get 4-2-1 or 4-1 headers, cold air intake and performance air filters and hi-performance exhaust system. will give you 15-25 more hp

both the B16(1.6L) and the B18(1.8L) engines are a bolt on swaps...
i.e will fit without any alteration
the B16 is around 160hp while the B18 is around 180hp stock...
stupid comparing both of them to the R18 found in 8th gen civic...
google up b4 posting things dat make u look lyk a noob... just sayin...:p

What! Headers, CAI/air filters and exhaust would get you a 15-25 gain? In what world? NFS maybe.
And OP, you're looking at B18 engines, way way expensive and hard to get anywhere in the world.

Honda Tuning Car Horsepower Increase, Turbo Kits, and Torque Measurements 1 - Import Tuner Magazine

This page reports what I said above...combined with little other things such as stablizing voltage, grounding, performance plugs and wires etc.
They measure output before and after each mod and test different brand requiprement and provide a summary below using dyno. Also providing cost/benefit analysis, install instructions etc.
Good website for reference and learning

B18 is bolt on for civic 92-95 as B18cR came in DC2 and both of them have similar mount configurations
Although its NOT difficult to find mounts for EK swapping B16 or B18 , those who go for durable swaps upgrade to hassport/innovation mounts
A B16 would cost more than 160k at the moment and a B18cR would cost around 275k approx
If ur looking for more power compared to stock then B18 would be a solution only if u have deep pockets
U cant really compare SOHC and DOHC setups even if they are stock
And yes upgrading ur old D16 with headers piping plugs intake etc etc would just free some whp hardly 5hp add on
Major upgrades are forced induction , chipped ecu's , better cams and other internals
The above mentioned linked is NOT at all for u and especially for ur engine or any other person in PAk , here we hardly get original stuff and even if u opt original high class brands , u'll end up with lesser power gains compared to the money input and then regrets - a swap would've been better
In simple words SOHC has limited power either u keep it stock or opt for stage 1 goodies - forced induction and other sensible ad ons can take it up to 200 hp but then again it is a turbo setup i.e tuning issues
Better to swap a b18cR and keep it stock , no match with 8th gen and 9th gen even if its B16

well that depends which variants of these do you want.
the type r are the most expensive and most diffcult to find. the b16b type r would cost around 250k and a b18c type r would be around 380k.. both with their original lsd gears.
