    Default civic poor fuel average

My civic 1998 LXI is running on petrol for the past 6 months. it use to run on cng before that. Now the car is giving around 7-8 KM per liter which is not ideal. i got it tuned on petrol but the average didn't increase. there is no sensor error well at least it doesn't show up. i tried running the car on hi octane but the engine didn't accept it the car was knocking and didn't have any pick on hi octane. there is no starting trouble and i drive like an average driver. I got the spark plugs and wires checked they turned out to be ok. i got the throttle body cleaned also. One mechanic said that the throttle body needs to be changed as a unit because cng cuts through it or something like that. The fuel pump is also working properly. I have visited Naeem near nurani kabab house(the signal next that comes after it) . He checked the exhaust levels they were ok. The injectors were also ok. Now what do i need to do to increase the average. Suggestions are highly appreciated. thanks. i am in Karachi if any recommendations are to be given regarding places where i can get it tuned on computer.

6th Gen local Civics with stock engines have trim POT setting potentiometer located at driver side kick panel.

Like the PROSMATEC does not have a MAF sensor.

i.c, then he would need injector cleaning and exhaust analyzer to get the potentiometer re-adjusted.

    Most probable causes.

    1. MAP
    2. Vacuum Leaks
    3. Clogged Injectors/ Spray not correct
    4. Dirty Air Filter
    5. Intake Reduction due to CNG
    6. Bad O2 (if you have one)
    7. Blocked or Restricted Exhaust flow

    1. MAP (no sensor error detected)
    2. Vacuum Leaks (car pick is perfect and on idle also)
    3. Clogged Injectors/ Spray not correct (if injectors were clogged there would be knocking in the car)
    4. Dirty Air Filter (changed a few weeks ago)
    5. Intake Reduction due to CNG( intake pipes restored to original form)
    6. Bad O2 (if you have one)
    7. Blocked or Restricted Exhaust flow
(exhaust is clear... but may need furthur analysis)

Also see, if it has a catalyst converter installed and what were the contents of exhaust as exhaust analyzer tells a lot if car is running rich or lean and is used instead of STFT, LTFT in latest vehicles. How about injectors ultrasonic cleaning, plugs and fuel pressure test. One has to look into every aspect if one is suspecting a problem with rich and lean condition.

P.S: computer testing to see coolant temperature sensor values and intake temperature sensors values. See if thermostat valve is installed or not and if not then you found your culprit.

@xoid get your car scanned and make videos or take pictures of each page of the sensor readings and post here. If your Short and Long term Fuel trims are ok? do you have O2 sensor? do you have black spark plugs and exhaust

yes plugs are black and exhaust is also black but water drops from the exhaust when car is idle. mechanic said its sign of good tunned engine. i am not sure about the O2 sensor. again if there were any sensor errors wouldnt the check engine light pop up.

@xoid black spark plugs and exhaust is confirmation that your car is running rich means consuming much fuel than it should.

Some other thoughts: Is there possibly an exhaust leak upstream of the O2 sensoror an intake air or vacuum leak? How's the idle speed? Have you measured the fuel pressure? Valve clearance is off?

It is not necessary for O2 to throw Check Light its very common they work off but not throw CEL

    Are you having CEL?
