Default Civic 1980 4 door htbk -automatic

    Guys,

I hve an old civic automatic 80-81 model, just need expert suggestions regarding its transmission:

When i put it in D, it doesnt move till i press the pedal where as when i put in R, it starts getting back.....i cant undrrstand why?

Second, sometime it makes noise like krrrr krrr when it is in P or N but when i shuffle thhe stick forward and backward and then back into P, the noise goes away.

Thirf the car has been driven on petrol, when driving i cant tell much about gear shift jerk,,,like its so smooth. Is it possible that the car is still in single gear and the shifting is not happening?

    Pleease advice

Does it have RPM meter? Keep an eye on it to notice gear shifting if u can't feel that.

I believe this car is a two speed semi automatic that requires you to shift the lever from L to D while driving as D is the final range and L is the low range.

seems like problem with shifting cable it might lost its strength with time, had similar issue with my car too, i tried to repair it but all in vain anyways had to replace it and made adjustments to it myself, or maybe it only needs adjustment in ur case.

    Guys,
I have recently changed the oil after draining the old oil approx 3.5 litre (Abro ATF dexron II) recommended by a good oil tech.
It doesnt have rpm meter however i have easily driven upto 100 on speedo witout any hassle

Xulfiqar bhai it has P R N OD * L gears on it. i normally drive in OD, ......... An auto gear specia, ist told me to put more than 4 litres of oil so that it will creates pressure and my problem will be resolved.

In standing start position nothing happens when i put in L. Or * gear except for the krrrr krrr noise.
